I was reading to forums for info on the Game Wizard and adding a mezz slot to my rev. D's guts when I ran into a thread posted by Godfather. It stated that the mezz slot could be changed into a PCI slot, the implications of which are quite clear. My question is this: has anyone done this yet? If it can be done, I'll be getting a mezz slot added to my iMac before the end of the month.
P.S. Is there anyone out there that knows if there is a company that does those mezz add ons any more. I know there was one at one time. . .

Actually I don't think this will ever work. If the mez slot is a PCI slot then the iMac Gamewizard would just be a regular PCI card with a different connector. Then why don't 3dfx's Voodoo2 drivers work with this card? It might electronically be identical, but there's a matter of finding drivers supporting the mez slot as well.

I suppose that's true, but 3dfx's drivers probably don't work because the chipset may be that much off since Game Wizard was not made by them personally. I also have another question. I have found a professional to solder on a mezz slot to my rev D. I know the space is there for it, but does the computer recognize the slot once it is in or does it ignore it? Also, does the current Mac OS support the mezz slot or is that not really an issue. Oh, and Ca$h, I've been looking, too. I'll let you know when I find one.

HAHahAHAHahHAhAH! Silly boy!
3DfX's voodoo2 drivers ***** DO ***** work with the gamewizard!
How do you think I play Quake 3?!?!?!?!?!
Sheesh. Do more homework before you piss on my pet project man...
(TimmyDee: Once you solder it on, it will work. The board for Rev A-D iMacs are all identical... you just need the connector soldered on. Well worth it. Go for it. And I dunno about OS9 supporting it.. I get higher framerates in 8.6, plus I like 8.6 better, so screw 9. ehhee. )

Digikey Part Numbers
PCI connector - 145168-4-ND
Mezz connector - 71439-0164 or 71436-0164, whichever is a plug, not a socket

That's what I thought too, until I was told otherwise.
There are four files in the 3dfx Voodoo2 b5 set. Of those, 3dfx GlideLib2x is supposed to be the actual driver, which does not come into play with the iMac Game Wizard. Instead, the original Game Wizard MacGlide driver works in conjunction with the three remaining 3dfx files to extend OpenGL support to the iMac Game Wizard.
In other words, the only driver that works with the iMac Game Wizard is the original Microconversions driver. The question is whether or not this is because of the pass釦hrough nature of the card, or because of the Mezz.

Are we positive that the mezz with that part number is the mezz that fits the imac?

Yep, another positive on V2 drivers working. So let me get this straight. i thought the VooDoo2 was a pass through card because it only provided 3D processing onboard and needed 2D support from elsewhere. so the game wizard card i thought was only a sized down board with the different connector. So, theoretically if this was the case there is no reason why the hack wont work. i mean if another card connected through a PCI connector doesnt need additional 2D support it wouldnt make a difference. Correct me if i am wildly wrong!

NZ, What hack are you refering to? I was thinking of the feasibility of a PCI connector to a non邦icroconversions card, ie., a V3 or 5.
If the Microconversions driver (GameWizard MacGlide) contains special instructions for the Mezz, then that would be a problem.
P.S. The iMac Game Wizard CD also has a set of beta drivers. Anyone know what's up with that?

Yeah, they are the last drivers that shipped before Microconversions went under.
