Well, there are two programs that fit in the control strip. They are called G3Strip and G4Strip. Both will work with a G3 computer and, as the name inplies, the G4Strip will also work with a G4. While these two won't overclock the CPU, it will overclock the L2 cache. And this can help speed up the machine. You can find it on Version Tracker.
I personally recommend G4Strip, it has more features that G3Strip.

I tried G4Strip and XLR8's one (or are they the same thing? I know theres another one), and whenever I OC'd the L2 on my Sawtooth 400, the machine would crash, it was so unstable...
Anoyne had the same experience, and found a fix? Or can I just not do it?

I tried out XLR8's L2 overclocker too, and it caused real stability problems. Of course, it could be because my Yosemite G3/300 is overclocked to 400mHz
Has it actually worked/caused any real benefit for anyone? Or, does it only really benefit XLR8's card users

I use Powerlogix's Cache Profiler to Underclock my cache... I OC'd my G3's clock speed and I wanted the cache to remain stable so I put it back down to the normal 150mhz.

I have had my Powerbook's L2 OC'ed from 160MHz to 200MHz for a few months now and I haven't had any major stability problems. I guess it just depends on the system's hard/software configuration.

Just to let you kno, overclocking the L2 dosent do too much. When I OC'd it on my iMac DVSE, didnt realli do anything noticable... only make the machine a bit hotter.

given the size and the purpose of L2 cache (Ars has some good articles on these things) (L3 for PCs since they have L1 on CPU, L2 on dye, L3 outside), OCing it doesn't do much, no...it is slightly noticeable, but if you have more crashes due to it, definitely leave it alone...

You cant set your L2 Cache to a 3:2 setting if you have increased the core CPU speed. Its about the nanoseconds of access times why it doesnt work. As long as your Mac is still at its born clock speed, you can almost always set the L2 cache settings to 3:2 without noticable problems. Except my personal cube wont run good with it. I have been running my Wallstretts L2 cache at 199.5 for its almost 2 years now, and i tell you IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. But you wont measure it within the Finder or AppleWorks. But just try RC5, SETI, Photoshop or Virtual PC and you will see something.
My experience with overclocking also shows me that except some newertech cards it seems these companies use L2 cache chips that are aloready to their speed limits by factory so you cant overclock them. My Powerlogix thinggie has 117 MHz cache and it runs up to 133.xx MHz, and crashes above 134 MHz. The same for the other cards i have had so far.
A good way of getting the cache some MHy further is using peltier elements for them. I havent got a decent one at this time, but a peltier makes them faster because they get colder. the effect should be better than with a CPU as the chips dont dissipate that much energy.

My RevB is chipped to 300mhz AND I use the Powerlogix cache controller. IT definitely makes a difference. You notice it from start-up with the march accross the screen bottom (courtesy of CC8). If the machine restarts from a hang (and the cache controller doesn't load) you really notice the slow-down.
Not for long though, I have my Newer 433/G4 coming as we speak. It was the very last one at Outpost! So long NeverTech!!!! If somebody want's the chipped daughtercard (It runs famously cool, Just ask Wlonh, sorry I forgot, we can't;( ) give me a shout!

Cipher I tried the Powerlogix thing as well and my machine would freeze at startup every other time. Very unstable
