I have two imac's I would like to hook up larger (17 or 19) monitors to.
Neither one that I know of has an actual port or connector to do this with.
Is this possible? I only want the larger monitor to work. I would put the imac on the floor.
Or does it make more sense to buy some used G3/G4 machine with separate monitor? Is this idea(G3/G4, monitor) possible for under $1000.00?
Thanks

Nope, impossible to get a larger monitor with those iMacs, unless you tear your computer apart, and change some of the stuff from the inside (meaning your motherboard will rest outside, overheating like crazy).

To get that kind of combination for that much money, you'll have to searc haround at dealmac.com and mysimon.com

Why not just get a DB-15 to VGA adapter?

actually there is a couple of ways to attach a external monitor to an old iMac.

1. http://www.imac2day.com/special/082098-extmonitor.html
This will give you an external monitor, but not a second monitor

2. http://sabre.forest.net/powerrinc-24...fm?ItemID=4000
PowerR's iPresenter.

I have an iPresenter, but haven't tested it yet. It should let you mirror your iMac display, but not get a true "second monitor" or more screen real-estate.

Good luck.

absolutly i have two friends with old 233 imacs both have 20 inch monitors hooked up to them. you just unplug the monitor, get a vga adapter and your in there.(if noot using a mac monitor)the stock video card has many resolutions to chose from.(not just 3 like the imac monitor)

TUESDAY Feb.27th. Thanks for all the input. It looks like from the imac2day link that it is simply a matter of unplugging the internal monitor and plugging the external monitor in its place. I'm assuming the DB-15 to VGA adapter is is to connect a non Apple monitor? I love this! The imac2day link site shows a 233 or tray loading machine, Can this be done with the newer 350 slot loading? I realize I've got to remove the case and maybe drill a hole to let the cable in. The goal is one large monitor with the internal imac monitor dead. Again many thanks. Pat
