I work in a computer lab and have easy access to a lot of machines that are easily fixable but too much trouble for me to be paid to fix them. I was wondering if there was a way that I could take 10 or so old machines (6100's and 7100's mostly, some 636's, lots of others too) network them all together via ethernet and turn them into one big multiprocessor machine that could be expandable as I acquired more machines. I would be willing to run UNIX on them if I had to, but ideally they would be MacOS. It's not really supercomputing, but I might be able to get around 700MHz with 12 or so macs. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Okay, I had another idea... if I could get a unix variation (ideally darwin) to cluster, then I could run OSX on top of it as an interface and provide mac compatibility...

I doubt darwin can cluster. MacOS X will not run on anything below G3 (not even upgraded cards) or anything besides darwin.
Even though, there are clustering kernels for the mac. I know so. I just don't know which one.

Try YellowDog Linux. This is exactly what they started out doing.

yea but that won't like make one computer computer way fast, it will just do like math or big calculations stuff, and you have to rewrite the application for the network MP, and it is only use full on 100 BT with G3s or higher
