this wimpy mono buzzer in my book is startin to piss me of
im investigating ways to hack in a second channel... i assume that the speakers amp is ony mono, so i gotta make a tiny amp circut. all this is not difficult... its just fitting it into the case that phases me.

anybody got ideas?

btw i plan to mount the the speakers in the screen bezel, as theres no space in the rest of the case.

Since you're going to mount the two new speakers in the screen bezel, perhaps it would be an option to leave the current speaker & circuitry as-is, then solder a trio of fine wires to the inside of the A/V socket? Then take your Left, Right & Ground wires up, there's gobs of space in the screen bezel, if you could get a small stereo amp circuit, and mount the entire 'new audio system' into the screen area. You should be able to find the supply voltage in there as well, to power the amp, and you won't be talking about huge amounts of current I'm sure.

The iBook will think it's external speakers through the A/V port, so use the sound panel to select external, and voila you get your stereo audio. If you also use the A/V connector, you'd have to incorporate an additional switch somehow to disable your mod when you put in the a/v plug.

Obviously I'm speculating, I have had my iBook FW apart, but not as apart as you'll need to go.

p.s. I use iTunes at work, and granted it's not concert sound, but I find the single speaker quite acceptable, at least here in the office.
