So, NewerTech has demonstrated that the G4 chip is pin compatible with the G3. That leads me to believe that if they wanted they could offer G4 upgrades for iBooks. Only bad thing is that you would need to mail your computer to Newer and back.

Same thing applies to the new iMacs' motherboards.

Anybody has reasons/experiences to refute/support this idea?

Is it pin compatible? I though the daughterboard for the G4 upgrade was re-engineered. Or am I missing somthing?

I was under the impression that the pins on the G4 and the G3 were completely different, meaning Newer Tech had to redesign the whole board. Their website, however, does not hint at this, as they call the iMaxpowr G4 the sister product to the G3 card. Huh. Seems odd to me. Especially when they have the Boot ROM problem to get around.

This is kind of off the subject, but not really. If Newer can put a G4 into a G3 card, why can't they change the ATi chip on the mobo so that we get 128 or 128 Pro (or even Radeon!) on the same mobo. They could work out an exchange program like the do with the processor cards so they would have a steady supply. I know I would take them up on it. Anyways, that's just another idea for Newertech. Anyone else think it could work?

If I could have a G4 processor and a Radeon card on my iMac DV SE/400 I'd be ecstatic!

The Rage 128/128pro/Radeon is not pin compatiable with a Rage Pro, in fact, they all use different technology. give it up.

Doesnt matter. 2nd gens have ATI cards that are an AGP card only on board.... so, theoreticalliy, if you cut all the traces (the AGP ones) and soldered them to a wire and then soldered that onto a radeon, it could work. Fat chance of pulling that off though.
