I was upgrading the hard disk on my Lombard 333 from a 10 GB Travelstar to a 12 GB Fujitsu. When I switched the drives, Drive set up would recognize the Fujitsu drive but would be unable to format it.
After trying for a while I decided the drive was bust or not compatible with the powerbook. Now for the scary part: when I switched back to the Travelstar it would not mount and Drive set up would also fail to initialize even though it recognizes it.

I am about to send my powerbook to Apple because I think I blew my ATA interface. I have tried several disk formatting utilities and they have all failed to initialize the drives. I have resetted the P-RAM and the reset on the back of the machine.

Any other suggestions before it ships out? Of course it happened just when my warranty expired. Have you had a repair of this kind done so that you can give me an idea how much it will be? Thanks for any info!!

I upgraded my 6gb Pismo to a 10gb TravelStar, and encountered no problems along the way (Although it was my first time performing such a risky stunt). My suggestions:

Double check the connector going to the drive, and double check the same cable going to the motherboard. it seems like the machine can see it, but it cant format it, meaning it senses it's there, but cant do anything about it.
