Would it be possible to upgrade the graphics card in a Ruby DV iMac? In the System Profiler it says it has a 2x AGP bus. If so, I would really enjoy something better than the stupid 8 meg RAGE Pro 128 crap Apple throws in for laughs.

Nope. Sorry. The graphics card is hardwired in. It says 2x AGP because that is the standard at which the mobo and the card communicate.

it also uses your system ram for video ram, just get like 256MB and you can run games alot better. i get way beter fram rates with 256MB of ram compared to 128 that the games uses.

I just bought a 64 meg RAM chip (from user tcarlyle) and am waiting for it to arrive. I hope that will help keep Oni from freezing up on startup.

Okay, iMacs have crappy gfx cards, and they may get a little hot but they do not overheat. Just because they graphics card is a little slow, does not mean the machine is crappy. They are great little machines for what they are: iMacs.

My name's ...uh... it's a bummer man.

Hey I work for a AASP and I see more of those dumb machines come in for service for either over-heating causeing the Power/AV board to go bad, or something elce where a entire LB has to be replace.

Where did you work on these iMacs? A Bakers in the Sahara dessert on a particularly sunny day?

Gimme a break..

iMacs are really ****ed. You really should have thought about your needs in the future when you bought it...thats why I really am feeling iffy about buying an older G4 400mhz...because of the 2x AGP....i can't get a Geforce 3 or better....not even a geforce 2...which sucks. So I guess I will buy a stripped down 466mhz g4, because of my budget at least. The iMac has a whole bunch of limits, it really isn't special. It is just a bare minimum machine that doesn't take up as much space.
Sure they saved apple, but that doesn't mean they are good.

Hmm, I thought AGP x4 cards would work in AGP x2 slots. Wasn't this whole thing supposed to be backward compatible?

4X AGP cards will work in a 2X slot, but a 2X slot can't provide the bandwidth a 4X card thirsts for.
