I posted earlier about my noisy Rage 128 Pro card in my AGP G4 and how loud the fan that cools the chip was getting. I know that these fans sell for cheap at RadioShack or where ever. Has anyone any thoughts on if I should attempt to remove the fan (it is removable via four screws and unplugging the tiny power cables to it)?? I would simply replace it with another standard fan....Any thoughts?
Thanks!

This should not be a problem. i would recommend you take the old one with you, to be sure you get one with the same mounting holes and height. Also be sure to get a GOOD ball bearing fan, not those cheap 2.99 sleeve shafters. THey suck and will last almost no time. if you thought the old rage fan was loud, wait till you hear one of those cheap ones go bad on ya......believe me it's enough to wake the dead.......
You can have me mac when u pry me cold, dead fingas off da mothabowd

The Lasagna BGA cooler type 0 should fit. These are much higher quality fans than the crap that ATI uses.

There's a thread over at xlr8yourmac forums (video card forum) on the Radeon's loud fan. A few people replaced it with this Lasagna fan and had great success.

I'm going to transfer the heatsink from my Rage 128 to my Radeon to get rid of the Radeon's fan. The fan is so cheap and noisy, it makes me sick that I spent so much on that card and they put on such a nasty fan. It's so loud that it drowns out the mains system cooling fan--that's one loud mofo!

Good luck with your ATI fan..

if your computer is underwarenty they will replace the fan, the card dosen't actuly need the fan it is just there for looks, at my work we see that all the time the fan stops working, and apple just replace the card with a card with a heat sink with out a fan
