Just about everything changes in the physical layout of the G4s. The way the USB, Firewire and ethernet, video align make it close to impossible to upgrade the mobo. Unless you are really trying to create a conversation piece, it just isn't worth it. Oh, and I forgot to mention power supplies, nightmares!

And with processor upgrades making it easy to level the field, I'm not sure what the incentive to swap out boards is.
MacBook - 2GHz Core 2 Duo / 4GBs of RAM / 250GB / Combo / GMA X3100 / Mac OS X v10.5
Athlon 64 X2 4000+ / 2GBs of RAM / 320GB / DVD-R / Radeon HD 3850 256MB / Vista x64

Increase in bus speed from 100mhz to 133mhz would be about the only thing...

The later G4 motherboards with faster bus speeds actually hold less RAM (1.5gb) whereas your 400mhz machine will hold up to 2gb. If yer gonna stick with that machine, I'd drop some cash on maxing out the RAM and a new processor and not worry about the mobo!
