Hi,
I have an 800mhz processor card (from G4 QS 2002) that will physically fit the G4 DA dual 533. However, since there was not a fan for the original processor in the DA there is not a power plug for any processor upgrade with a fan. The 800 mhz proc card does not have a power plug on the card. My questions:
If I splice in a longer power cord (fan power cord is only about 3 inches) can I use the power plug that the speaker unit uses (about 8 more inches a way)?
-or-
Is there a way to add a power plug to the mother board or card to enable the new fan?
-and-
If either of these options is doable where would I get said parts?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Rita

I believe that CPU card also requires a 12V connection to the card itself. One of the connectors on the Quicksilver boards provided this before but it's not there on the DA board. It's been a while so I don't remember the exact details.

So leave the speaker plug alone?

I don't understand. Even with the Molex 4P connector I'll need something more?
Or it's not possible to make this work because of inherent differences in the boards?

Yes, you need more. the QS processor has 4 screws to the motherboard while your DA has only 3. The 4th one must be powered with 12V for the CPU to work. Now, unless your dual 533 isn't working, I wouldn't bother as the 800mhz CPU card has only a 256k cache and is VERY slow compared to others of the same time period with more cache. The 800mhz CPU still won't allow you to easily install Leopard, so you would be better off finding an aftermarket upgrade which is faster.

The Dual 533 DA works fine. I have an M-Audio sound card I was hoping to put into the DA but the sound card will not work with a dual processor. I thought I would get a single processor and more speed with the switch. I run OSX 10.4.11 and don't intend to upgrade on either of these machines for the time being. Yup, 4 holes. I hadn't noticed that before.
Oh well, the sound card works fine on the 1.2 Ghz QS. I was just trying to spread the duty around.
Thanks to you and mduell for your help and advise. I've learned something and that's always a good thing.
Peace,
Rita

I have a PC case that came with male fan plugs and have been trying to figure out how to fix it. I think the cable above will do the job. Thanks.
