Like a lot of mac users, I still got an old iMac to make fun - when got nothing else to do. The modem burns out a long time ago. I was using it to share Internet (LAN) Apache etc.

Now, I'm thinking about take off the burned modem (who still browse the Internet by dial net???) and put something more usefull. I beleive there are 3 options:

- A PCI ehternet, so I can better manage LAN
- A USB / FireWire port - iMac 333 got only USB 1.1
- A newer video card - U cannot see youtube with a Rage Pro !!!

So what you think? Somebody had done something like this or am I out of my mind?

I think this is a CRT iMac G3 333MHz from the description. The modem connects to a logical Apple Serial port - there were some 3rd party solutions that replace the modem with that standard port for connecting old peripherals.

The 233 iMacs came with an extra expansion port on the bottom, labeled as a mezzanine slot. This was a PCI slot in disquise. There was a Voodoo card sold for that port at one time. The extra port vanished with the 266 MHz machine, and never reappeared.

Yes, I'm looking to these ports now. Is exactly as you say. Now I'm researching for somebody that allready put a PCI connector there. Today there is a lot of periphels that may work on it. Here is the pinout:

The mezzanine slot was indeed a PCI slot.... but the connector is bizarre. I have a rev D iMac (333mhz) with a rev A motherboard, which allowed me to upgrade to the voodoo2 card (gamewizard). I'm pretty sure it's the most modified 1st gen iMac in the world, and I used to be really into these things. If you have any questions please let me know.
