Silly question, perhaps, but here goes: The slotloading iMac G3 has one wire that supplies -12V (ie. negative 12V) on a blue wire. What is this voltage used for? Usually it's used by some serial ports, but the iMac doesn't have one. If it's the modem, then fine: I won't use it. Will the iMac in general work?

The reason I'm asking is that I have a bastard project in mind. I have an old iMac G3 that died in the usual way these do (flyback transformer), so I figured I'd harvest this board and put inside a regular tower box. The twist is that the box should already have a regular PC board in it - two in one, so to speak. I can get power from molex connectors meant for HDs, but there is no way to get a -12V signal other than leaching it from ATX connector. What will happen if I don't connect that pin?
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx
