I'm looking for some good mostly-modern games that run on my iMac DV 400(it only has an ATI Rage 128, not pro). Anybody have any suggestions? I've tried games like MOHAA(my friend lent it to me) and it performed really badly and then crashed. Other games do the same thing. Am I doing something wrong, or is my computer just not able to play these games? What games are out there that will work? I am running in 10.1.5.

if you don't mind rebooting into os9, these are games i used to play on my lombard 400mhz laptop w/ a whimpy graphics card:
*baldur's gate (rpg game, lots of fun)
*starcraft have played in x as well, works fine
*the new value line of games at www.macplay.com looks great and they are only 20 bucks! fallout looks like the best
*civ3 might run ok, civ2 would run great!
unreal tourney, quake3 should be fine
you don't know jack has aged well (trivia game)

for osx:
airburst is a shareware game that is fun
starcraft runs fine in x
fallout should run fine as well

Sin Gold will run well and the graphics is quite good and it is a fun game!

Aliens vs Predators should run well, it is not fun it is scary!

Unreal Tournament as suggested by others. For UT you also have the magificent single player conversion "Return to nai pali" However, UT is on the border of being to taxing for your setup

Hevy Metal FAKK2 and Rune probably is sluggish on your computer.

All suggestions made are good.

Also :

tony hawk pro skater 2 - it ran well on my indigo ibook which is similar spec to your imac.

age of empires/aoe 2/galactic battlegrounds would all run well also.

Basically, your machine will run well most non 3d games made up until about 18 months ago. 3d games will kill it, however, because of the rage 128 video card.

Quake 3 ran fairly ok on my ibook, but not great.
