Has anyone experience with Warcraft III on the new Dual 867 G4?
How does the GeForce 4MX perform under
(a) OS 9.2.2
(b) OS X 10.1
(c) OS X 10.2 with the new patch from Blizzard (released today)
and a 1280 x 1024 resolution (17 inch TFT display)?
A side question: Is the noise of the Dual 867 G4 really so annoying?
Thanks in advance!
Willy

Hey,
I got my dual in september, & I also have Warcraft III.
The machine is great & fast (for my needs).
To answer your questions, I can only give my jugments about WIII, since I do not own any other 3D intense games ala quake.
I am also not sure if I have been using the resolution you mentioned (although I do think so). I'll check tonight.
(a) OS 9.2.2 : Runs great (few slowdowns on huge battles, but I think that's pretty comon for everyone). 99% of the time, the game runs as it should.
(b) OS X 10.1 : Can't say, computer came with 10.2
(c) OS X 10.2 with the new patch from Blizzard (released today) : I now only play via 10.2.1 . I can say that it is still a "bit" slower then in 9.2.2, but only slightly, and occasionaly. I'd say that I get more of a 95% of the time, the game runs as it should.
Other impressions : OSX is GREAT on that machine. No complaints so far. Was playing Civ III last night as it was doing the software updtates in the background (dl + installing). Didn't notice a thing until I quit the game, and it asked me to reboot.
Now for the noise. From what I was reading, I was expeting a monster. Far from it. I am used to working in a room with 5+ computers, so I must say I was happily surprised. But it IS a lowd machine, and quitter fans would have been nice. It is VERY tolerable though, and after 2 min on the CPU, i don't notice it at all. Also, I thought it'd be UGLY, but I actually like it (it's better in person).
And the CD/DVD drive is pretty quiet (dunno why, but I've always had loud ones).
That's it so far...anything else ?
Have fun !
Piny
Edit : Note that I am not a hard core gamer that requires 100% of everything (ie 200 frames at 1600x1200 in quake). Something that satisfies me plenty might not someone else.

I'm playing on a Dual ghz (mirror drive doors). I have the graphics cranked up all the way, nothing has ever been slow. The experience is absolutely amazing. Radeon 9000, 512 MB DDR RAM, 80 gig HD, 167 system bus.

I double to that, I have exact same specs except 100 gigs, and with the new patch haven't seen any slowdown with all settings to max. Except in a hairy battle with dozens of bludlusted shamans, starfall, frost wyrms and blizzards. But that is a pretty big exception unless you play only 3v3 games and you never rush.
