I'm looking for a good "Nintendo-style" (i.e. mini-joystick on left, buttons on right, triggers in front, like Nintendo/Sega/Sony consoles) game controller that's compatible w/ Jaguar.
Saw the Macally ishock II ( http://macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/ishock2.html) at the Apple Store but it does not seem to be compatible with OS X.
Any clues on similar devices?
Help will be appreciated.

Well...I was in the same situation as you were a month ago..."which gamepad should I get for OS X? None seem to be supported!"
Turns out that *any* HID-supported apps will use the gamepad perfectly. The problem? Almost no app makes use of Apple's HID (the new Sprockets-type handler for gamepads and joysticks).
Here's a few programs that make use of HID: SNES9X (Super Nintendo emulator), Flarestorm (Playstation emulator, although very problematic under 10.2), Incoming (a port of an old game), and a few other games I can't remember (I'll go check for you.)
Buuuuut...there's GamePad Companion that will inject a bit of HID support into any app that you want...it works just like the old pre-OS X Gravis control panel for apps that didn't use InputSprocket.) And I think it works...but I haven't had time to try it out.
I'd go for the iShockII but go ask around about GameCompanion and the iShockII before doing anything drastic as buying this expensive (but well-made) controller.

Hi
I am running OSX.2 and have a brand new USB Gravis Gamepad Pro and a demo copy of the software Gamepad Companion.
The software certainly intalls correctly, creating a new System Preference panel which allows you to assign keys to your game pad.
Getting the joystick within my Gravis Gamepad to function properly has been entirely frustrating. Despite the option to alter sensitivity settings for both X and Y axis, I have the following problems when I actually test out the settings using Gamepad Companion's "test" option:
a)left-right x-axis movement is minimal
b)the cursor is never stationary (always sendingitself downward), even when I put no pressure on the joystick at all. This latter problem may be a "sticky" Gravis device, necessitating return. Once I go into a game (Medal of Honor), these problems play out differently.
c)In the game the joystick cursor is stationery, but I am unable to move left or right, or down. I can only move up.
Yikes
Any thoughts?

I've had similar results with GamePad Companion on Return to Castle Wolfenstein. All buttons plus the 4-way thumb controller work fine, but the two analog sticks on the MacAlly iShock II act as non-analog button type controllers, making aiming (as one does with the mouse) completely inaccurate. Even mapping joystick movement to the mouse x and y axes does not work well.
The software works great with MAME, SNES and other games where control requirements are less sophisticated, but it's a shame to limit the controller's functionality in this manner.
I still plan to register GamePad Companion as it's a very promising product that, for $15, is priced right. I hope to get support from the developer once I register.
