I'm considering buying this game, but I can't find any information on whether the Mac version can play against the PC version, be it LAN or BattleNet? I've heard some rumors both ways, but I'm curious if anyone has ACTUALLY played WC3 cross platform?

I went over to my friends house, turns out he has both versions of WC3, and he can't seem to get it working cross platform, despite being on a LAN (with a DSL router) and no firewall running on either the Mac or the PC. When he makes a game on the PC the Mac doesn't see it and vice versa!

then your friend is doing something wrong. ask him to check each computers network settings.

Each PC/Mac has to be on a different Game Port. eg: 6112, 6113, 6114,...etc. Do this when playing on a LAN.

I would make sure that all pcs/macs are running the latest version as well. Connect to battle.net and it will download the latest versions.

I had a similar problem when the pcs could not see the game my mac was hosting. After updating, they worked like a charm.

I play more or less every day with my friends (all on PCs) over Battle.net. It's just like D2 -- fully cross-platform.
Be happy.

Everything works fine for me. Something is wrong with your friend's setup. And what do you mean he has both versions of wc3?

As everyone said, the game is fully cross-platform, and the CD is Hybrid (both Mac & Pc versions on same CD).
Never had any problems with it.
