Wow. What a technical simulator. This is really scientific stuff.

However, I flew my plane to 5000 feet, shut off the engines and then let it glide. The plane eventually glided down to the ground and skimmed the earth before stopping on an uphill slope. Surely that's not possible.

Well, X-plane handles landings and crashes in a bouncy way, with no collision detection for trees or buildings, either.

But there have been a few cases where a pilot of a light aircraft has fallen asleep from exhaustion or become unconscious because of pressurization failure, while the plane runs out of gas and lands itself in an open area. :o

BTW, to get the most out of sims, if you're not a pilot, check out Hal Stoen's tutorials.

I flew a United Airlines passenger jet though. It just glided down with the engines off.
