Feeling gypped?

I dunno, but I can't fight the feeling of being gypped everytime companies make the stupid mistake of NOT developing a Mac version of a wildly succesful and popular prequel at the same time they're developing the PC version.
And sometimes, they should feel gypped too...because I know some people that will rather pirate an older game than buy it. Companies hurt themselves by not releasing games simultaneously. And then they say that the Mac market is not a viable option anymore because they didn't get the sells they were expecting.
Take Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 for example. And Unreal Tournament 2003. Now that Tony Hawk Pro SKater 4 is coming...why the **** are people going to buy THPS 3? As for Unreal Tournament 2003...it should have been released simultaneously with the PC version. The fanbase is already there...it's not like they're wondering "Gee, is the Mac crowd gonna like this game or not?" OF COURSE THEY ARE...UT was a super-mega-hit on PC *AND* Mac.
Frankly, I'm sickened by this.

Well, they need to know the demand. What if they released the best game in the universe but for some very odd reason, it didn't sell? They need a guaranteed platform to test it on before investing time and money in other platforms.
The guaranteed platform, now with over 200 million potential customers, is the PC platform. Consoles come next. Macs come last due to the amount of Macs capable of gaming and the amount of Mac gamers. We're at the bottom of the food chain here!
And get your ass on iChat. I need to ask you a favor!

I can't...my computer is still in the shop getting fixed. Although the tech guy has never seen anything like this before and he's as stumped as I am.

Still! I think it must be faulty memory or CPU. You've tried everything else.

The tech dude did some loop tests on the motherboard and CPU and they turned out to be ok. I haven't checked if he's tried different RAM yet...but I've checked the RAM myself quite a few times and I don't think it's it.

And it doesn't crash in OS9 if I remember correct?

I don't buy that. I agree with Guy, Unreal Tournament 2003 would sell as many copies as they could make. Hell, it would be sold out before it hit store shelves. Yet us 3rd class citizens (Mac Users) get gypped yet again.
By the way, is the final version of UT2003 shipping for the PC? I thought only the demo was out.

Doesn't freeze in OS 9 nor 10.1.5 and earlier.

Exactly...it's not as if they're releasing 'Super-Obscure-Game-That-Nobody's-Heard-Of-2000'...they're releasing a sequel to the wildly successful Unreal and Unreal Tournament.
There'd be a little flaw in the reasoning if some guy at Epic sat down and thought this in his head:
"Gee...Unreal sold extremely well on Mac and Unreal Tounrament sold wildly on Mac...therefore Unreal Tounrey 2003 might flop and therefore we'll only release it 4 months after the PC version."
Unreal and Unreal Tournament were both released not much more than 2 months after the PC version was released by Westlake...and now Epic tells us we have to wait? Gimme a break...
What MIGHT happen is that I buy the PC version and not buy the Mac version at all and skew all data and make Epic think that Mac isn't worth developing for because Unreal Tourney 2003 didn't sell well 4+ months after it was released.
As result, Halo and Evercrack for Mac won't sell very well either (or at least as well as it could have it was released simultaneously.)
Rule of thumb...if you know your product is going to be a hit through reputation (Blizzard has this reputation, iD Software has that reputation, Bungie has this reputation, etc...) or through popular prequel...RELEASE IT SIMULATANEOUSLY or face skewed results or 'piracy through frustration of getting a product late'.

If one feels that pirating a game is going to help then they need to rethink their strategy.

I thought Unreal 2003 was being developed for the Mac by the same team that is making the PC version? I remember the article about it a month or two ago. Or has that now been canned? If so, that sucks.
Ah well. Metroid Prime in November. ******
Edit: OMG, the word "j¡zz" is filtered? Gay.

From what I heard there is no "team", only 1 person. UT2003 is being ported inhouse by Epic, but by 1 person who's also doing the port for Linux. As far as I know it hasn't been canned.

Never said that pirating would help. But I know people that will pirate the game because it's outdated. Heck...call it premature-abandonware if you want.
It'll hurt both Epic and Mac users.
Epic is bringing it upon themselves.

I never said you said pirating would help I was basically just saying pirating isn't a good thing regardless of how old the PC version is.

Not sure I agree that PC is the primary games market. But that's just my opinion.
Even the most bog-standard PS2 game outsells all but the best PC titles. And you also see more PC titles head console-ward than the other way (it just ain't worth the cash).
Just a shame more don't head our way quicker (if at all).
