Hello everyone!

If you'd like to try out my golf game (similar in veing to Game Boy Golf, or even Links, though my graphics sure don't compete with Links... but my game has a golf hole and course editor!) I'm entering into the iDevGames competition, please download it at one of these locations:

Mac OS X:
http://www.trapzero.com/Downloads/golfosxbeta2.sit
Mac OS 9 and earlier:
http://www.trapzero.com/Downloads/golfos9beta2.sit

Let me know what you think of it by posting in this thread or contacting me at golf@karlbecker.com

Thanks very much! Any comments are appreciated!

Its interesting. Id make each course start with like a default position and driver, as opposed to leaving the same settings as before. Also, the energy swing bar is very unresponsive, especially when trying to make a short shot. Overall though, its a nice effort.

Weezer, thanks much for the input. I have a really different new beta out, number 3, which features a large amount of improvements, including textures, lots more sounds, and much more. Try it out below, and please tell me what you think, and e-mail me any holes you create! Thanks!

Not bad game. The only improvement you need is a way to scroll the map to see the hole before shooting and more nicer graphics.

cool game- lots of potential.

Here are a few suggestions:

When you get a hole in one, it has no 'saying' come up on screen like it does with birdies/ bogies

How about markers on the powerbar so that you can work out better how hard to hit the ball? like at 20%, 40% etc

Include what positions on the power bar do what- ie; maximum/ slice/ hook... or even colour the bar so that the further it gets towards the end, in gets redder (indicating power)

A way to tell how far your (currently selected) club can hit without having to check the drop down list?

Possibly auto select the most appropriate club?

A small map in the corner indicating the position of the hole, (so you dont need to scroll), direction of current hit, and also how far current club will hit (both could be represented with a line pointing out from the position of the ball- the lengh of the line represents distance)

Maybe include a splash screen/basic animation of where the ball lands? ie bunker, fairway, rough.

This is a cool looking game, I really enjoyed playing it. keep up the good work!

Something that would be cool is a Quartz mini-putt (or normal golf) game with water transparencies and rotatable playing field. Don't mind me...just day dreaming.

The game is pretty cool so far.

MUCH improved. The added distances with the clubs makes the game actualy playable, as before I was just randomly guessing which clubs might work well. One thing I would add, if you hit the swing, but dont press the stop button where you want, and it comes all the way back to zero, it should go back up again so you get another try, rather than just dying at the 0 position. The map in the corner is a good idea, but I would also like to be able to freely move around the map. On some courses, the show pin option leaves out half the course, and you cant see where to shoot. Great improvements from the last version, keep it up.

Beta 4 is now available, with the following improvements:
* new shot control, need to be accurate so as to not hit the ball hook or slice
* more tree types, random different trees now pop up instead of one single kind
* new splash screen
* many bugs fixed, and much more

Enjoy, and please post comments here!

Oh, and to get the editing tools for OS X, I've packaged them outside the archive now (I'll do the same for OS 9 next time I think), check out

funkboy,

I'm getting lots of crashes. In fact I have not yet been able to finish one hole using the OS X version (Beta 4). I am not running Jaguar, I'm at 10.1.5. Is that a problem? I can give you more details about my configuration if it'll help you.

[update] I finally got though 2 holes, then on the third hole, it's hanging on before it displays the 3rd hole. The window says, "Hole 3 Par 3". The watch cursor is up and it looks like it may be force quit time.

Thanks for the report. I also figured out this bug from someone posting on idevgames.com forum, so it's fixed now.

I'll be releasing a new version of the game shortly, with a full 18-hole course!
