Is this game worth getting? I will be playing on a Tibook 667 w/Jaguar installed and a half gig of memory.
I basically want to know how the gameplay is. I play warcraft III quite alot and am happy if Heros plays, performance wise, on par with that. I also want to make sure the multiplayer LAN play works well too.
I did not notice any patches out for it, although I could be wrong. Any help is appreciated.

I play the game on a Dual 800, 768MB with a GeForce 3 and I think it plays pretty well. The larger maps, i.e. XL bog down my system. I can wait minutes between computer players turns, until I start killing them off On smaller maps and maps that are more open and less item and creature intensive, it actully plays pretty quickly. One thing to note that dual processors don't make a difference. I haven't played any LAN games yet. I've been too busy getting acquainted with all the new classes and spells, coming from playing Heroes III. Sopmething to keep in mind is that the Mac version of the game only plays with the Mac version of the game. The only "bug" I've found so far is that the game cannot be played in 1280*1024. I've contacted 3do and they have mentioned that they are aware of this bug. The Mac version of the game is based upon is the latest PC version. This means that gameplay wise the game shouldn't have too many bugs, if any at all.

Thanks for the reply. It frustrates me a little that they make it so that I on a mac can only lan multiplay with another mac user. That alone might keep me from buying it as I know no one else that owns a mac.

There's always Gameranger. Haven't played on it myself, so I can't comment. I play hotseat, so the networking becomes less important, but I can see it being an issue for people in the sane house who have different platforms and want to play together.

IMHO, wait for the first patch to come out. rev 1 is buggy.
Combat is excruciatingly slow - there's a consistent 8-10 second lag before EACH enemy creature stack takes their turn. Once they 'decide' what action to take, they move pretty quickly, but getting to that point is just horrendous.
As previously mentioned, you can't play at 1280-res
I'm completely unable to scroll any map by dragging the mouse to the bottom of the screen. Up, left, right, no problem, but I can't scroll down.
I swear resources go missing, although can't pin this one down. I'll be running along with, say 200 ore one turn, then suddenly I'm down to 4 ore when I didn't build anything, but it doesn't happen all the time. At other times I'll have plenty of resources, but can't build certain structures because I "do not have sufficient resources". Wierd.
Overall, except for the above issues, I'm happy with the game. The learning curve isn't too bad (although finding my way around the new towns is a little slow still)

Haven't isolated this one down yet.. But your not the only one. Runs great for me aside from the pointless couple second pause before the comp moves in combat. And I am very annoyed they dind't bother to test the higher rez's

On the plus side... I think that the new graphics are great; adding greatly to the visual enjoyment of the game. While they won't satisfy someone who needs to strain (to the breaking point) the latest graphics cards, they create a nice environment.
Another plus is the vast new spell system. The weeks spent figuring all this out means many hours of enjoyable play!
As mentioned, one of the largest minuses has to be the rather large time each enemy needs to 'think' about their move during combat. It is very distracting. Speeding up the animation only makes the gaps seem longer!
I've also noticed a bug with the cursor info messages; especially during combat. I'm learning to quickly drag the cursor away from a unit, because allowing the message to display seems to make the game hang for a bit longer than it should. This also seems to happen in the adventure part of the game.
Luckily, the things that are most annoying with the game are the types of things that will probably be optimized and issued as patches.

The mouse dragging seems to work form me. Even in windowed mode. The lag does get annoying. I like to control my creatures as opposed to auto combat. Tired of the computer losing creatures for me. I have to say like others that I enjoy the new magic system. It seems to me that your heroes are the first ones targeted by the computer though. Black dragons seem to love toasting my heroes. I haven't decided what skills are the best yet, but pathfinding through scouting seems to be a must. There is another thread that Juan started that has links to lots of maps. Can't have fun playing the game without some choices. Busy playing Archipalaego of plenty right now. XL map that looks like it will take forever in hotseat.

Oh, and I have to admit that the addition of a level editor is a nice plus.
Not that I've yet had time to create anything worthwhile with it but it finally opens up an option that's been PC-only up until now.

Speaking of the editor. Has anyone figured out how to edit the scripts? I can't find anything that shows event scripts. Another odd thing I've found playign the game. This is sort of related to the scripting is that pandora's boxes won't trigger for me. has anyone else played a map with a Pandora's box, and if so, what has the outcome been when you approached one?

yes, I'm very glad to see the editor show up this time. I was quite disapointed that we didn't get the editor last time around.
Too bad tis' such a slow process.

In reply to my own question. I found the script editor in Map properties. Looks like there is lots that you can do. Still haven't found an answer to the Pandora's box question. I can't even find an icon for it in the editor. I might not be looking properly, or the code for it might have been overlooked. If anyone plays a map with one, please let me know. Thanks. Would like to get this fixed with their next patch if it is a bug.

I'm a great fan of this game, but the port isn't so great.
There are some bugs that are really annoying, like 1280x res combat unsupported, AI pause in combat, one or more scenario crash bugs (?), and less annoying are weird sound behavior in computer turns, scrolling bugs, and maybe some others. But what strikes me most is that AI is RETARDED. Have you guys played a scenario game? (not campaign). I played several games with AI with different maps and races and they are all retarded. They offer no challange at all. And at champion difficulty those AIs can't kill anything.
Since AI is so retarded, scenario games are no fun at all. I hope this is some bug and refuse to beleive that the original game has such stupid AI. I think Heroes III had challenging computers.
All that's challenging in this game is killing neutral armies.
Anyone else share the thought?

I forget which map it was, but I did play a scenario with two Pandora's boxes in it. Each time when I approached there was a message asking if I wanted to open it, after which I promptly got my butt kicked. Returning after beefing up my armies earner me a typical artifact/gold reward.

Thanks for the reply. Now I know it was just bad coding on the maps I played, and not a bug with how Pandora's boxes are handled with the mac version of the game
