After I got 10.2, D2 ran horribly slow (3FPS) in hardware mode.
I was told this was a bug.
Well, my new radeon 8500 should be here soon, and I want to play it again, so does anyone know if the bug has been fixed?

Thx,

Scott

I still have to boot into OS 9 to get the best performance. DII OS X never ran well with OpenGL for ATI cards.

I have Diablo II and a Radeon 8500 and have never had any problems running it in OS X.

The game plays fine for me in Software mode in OS X, but with OpenGL there's a significant performance hit in high traffic areas, particularly Act V. There are parts in town where framerates drop to single digits standing still.
I've seen this behavior on an assortment of Macs with various ATI cards (RAGE 128s, RADEONS both AGP and PCI, RADEON 7500s, RADEON 8500s) in 10.1.x through 10.2.

10.2, OpenGL, GeForce 3 = crap. But that was supposedly nVidia's (Apple's?) fault, right, for the way these nVidia cards handle the compressed textures in D2? Who knows. I hope they fix it one day. One day.

For now, it's all about software mode.

I don't run D2 in OS X, but in 9.2.2 it's just dandy on a DP450/Radeon in RAVE/millions.
OTOH, it runs like sh!t on my iMac G4/700/GF2 unless I put it software mode, under either OS X or OS 9. I think the problem is with the nVidia drivers...
Be happy.

I've run DII/LoD on Rage 128, OEM Radeon, and OEM GeForce3. That's in both OS9 and OSX. From my experience the best setup is to run DII in software mode. I know this is the exact opposite of what you would expect. And to make it even more confusing, OS9/Rave will certainly benchmark faster than software mode. However, when there's a lot of action on screen Rave bogs down. This is ESPECIALLY noticable on Nightmare and Hell levels. OpenGL is worse - even in OSX. Software mode doesn't benchmark as fast as Rave, but it also doesn't slow down as much when there's a lot of action on screen. Also, software mode works great in both OS9 and OSX. Currently I run D2/LoD in OSX in software mode on a dual 500/GF3 Cube. It's very responsive, even on the secret cow level regards......joe

^^^^

Hey Rob [Barris], any info on if this is going to be fixed?
I'm not spending $200 on a radeon 8500 if the only game I play that really needs it can't use it.

Well, WC3 uses it, but I don't like that game much and it runs like hell on my system.

D2 also doesn't recognize 2GB of RAM. Although WarCraft III already corrected this problem, when I try to launch D2 it will give me a "not enough memory" error, although it's bullshit. In order to play, I have to take out a stick, which I refuse.

My Diablo II crashes about 5 minutes into play, so I haven't the slightest idea really.
