I have OSX 10.2.2. I just bought MOO2. I can't go 5 minutes without the game crapping out on me. It jumps out of OS 9 Classic and into OSX, but it almost seems as though the video drivers get all trashed because the video is messed up.

Anyway, Does anyone know of any patches or fixes for MOO2 within OSX?

I am using a Powerbook 1ghz.

Thanks.

Wish I could give you positive news on this, but it just won't work. If you try to run the game normally in 9.2.1, it craps out when anyone attempts a planetary invasion. I have not been able to play it on my Quicksilver. Good news is that MOO3 is due out in January. No hotseat in that version though due to the nature of the game.

We also experienced similar problems attempting to run MOO II in OS 9.2. Not only will the game always crash sometime after starting to play but the colors get displayed incorrectly, making it difficult to see options. I too am waiting for MOO III!

You guys all have the 1.6 patch, right? The boxed version does not include it. Search VersionTracker.

It runs just fine for me... DP450/OS9.2.2
Be happy.

The 1.6 patch is REQUIRED for MOO II to work correctly with 9.0 and up.

The patch upgrades the games graphics engine to use better resolutions and more than 256 colors (I believe).

However, in classic, I've never been able to fully load the game without putting the MOO II folder at the root level of the drive.

I thought I was the only one who still played this game!

wow, alot more replies then expected...

First off get the patch it fixed a whole bunch of problems.

I set my monitor to 800x600 and 256 for best compatibiltiy. And it's been amazingly stable for me (more so then under System 7 when it came out) except if you do a planatary invasion it crashes.

If you can't get it to work the only consultation I can give is MOO 3 should be on store shelves this January.

good luck

it works just fine, whether I invade or get invaded (which is rare). My personal preference is to mind-control the infidel populations and assimilate them instantly.

So true -- except for them fa-riggerin' Elerians.
What's your favorite custom race setup? I personally go for either creative(+8)/subterranean(+6)/production+1(+3)/rich homeworld(+2)/Feudal(-4)/ground combat -10(-3)/spying -10(-2) or the same as above, with Telepathic (also +6) instead of subterranean.

Awesome game
Be happy.

Well, thanks to y'all, I've got the game working. It slowly degrades over time, so that eventually I have to restart that application. But it's good enough to play...and get my butt kicked. Apparently you can't get 5 years out of practice and expect to excel right away.

Thanks again. Happy Gaming!

indeed. Was playing a game of hot seat with a buddy...might have to investigate this bug again...

Still can't wait for MOO 3, and to the dude who started this thread I'm glad to hear you go the game up to a playable state.

I'm curious, what's your record?

I have a screenshot of mine, it's over 2 years old and I have no idea how that compares to the rest of you, but it would still be interesting to see yours.

Ultra tweeked custom races welcomed

edit:

Perhaps I should add that the screenshot I posted was for a game on "hard", with the smallest galaxy possible...if I recall correctly.

Also, concerning the "invade" issue, even though I generally don't need to actually invade someone, it works fine without crashes. Tried it today in Classic 9.2.2 + Jaguar 10.2.2 with the 1.6 patch for Moo2 running on a Sawtooth G4/384 MB RAM and a standard Rage 128 Pro video card.

I was still able to repeat it Wonder what's up with our systems in comparison to theirs. What version of Classic are you guys running, and on which system? I'm wondering if it has to do with either our system enabler or our version of OS 9. I'm trimmed my extensions as best as I can without handicapping game play in classic. Perhaps I've left something running that shouldn't be. It's a clean system install with no third party extensions.

MOO1 is so much better than MOO2.

Too bad it doesn't play anymore w/o fubared colors.

I could never get into MOO1, after playing MOO2 first; there just wasn't enough to do!
Some people complain that MOO2 is too complex -- and, at the beginning, it is. However, once you've played a few games (and read the instruction manual -- I kept mine in the bathroom and eventually got through it, thus learning all the neecessary stats for everything) you get the hang of it pretty well, and realize that the complexity is in-fact the game's strongest aspect.

I've never played another game that has so much unit customization, nor such entertaining space exploration. Diplomacy could have used some work, but MOO3 seems like it'll address that.

The official release date, BTW, was recently move to 12/17 (theoretically for both Mac and PC, but I think they'll pull a Neverwinter Nights and release it a few weeks later [yes, I know NWN came out for PC in July and there's still no Mac version. Bioware is lying scum]).
Be happy.

People invade planets?

Can't we just bomb the crap out of them? (or better yet, just use Stellar Converter and slice 'n dice?)

That works nicely if your stragety is scorched earch (ala Soviets in retreat to invading Germans in world war 2). Destroy planets that you could occupy, just so your enemies don't get them. I prefer assimilation via mind control. Quick and painless, and I have a population ready for production.

I used to, but now I have to keep the computer from doing it! Took a few crashes before I figured out that is what was causing the crash.
