Yeah. Glenda gonna do another preview? Anyone have any ideas? I'm getting rather sick of X3. It just is too slow on my computer. I don't run OS 9 anymore, either.
I love this game.

Glenda's got no 'free time' apparently. Could be true with all the projects Westlake is handling...but I'm rather disappointed Unreal Tournament X Tease Editions were released...
I'd rather have nothing than a half-completed port.

I also get no music, which poses a problem.

I don't have any problems with it being slow, G4/400, 1G RAM and flashed Radeon 8500. It seems pretty comparable to 9, but I haven't gone around running benchmarks.

No? I have a Quicksilver 733 with 640 megs of RAM and the 8500 running 10.2, and it's a DAWG.
In CTF-EpicBoy or DM-Outlaws, I get about 24 FPS when outside...granted, those are pretty intensive maps, but still. Some are obviously better than others, but very rarely will I break 45 FPS. That's disgusting. If you're playing anything intense, less than 50 FPS puts you at a severe disadvantage.
My friend's (I think) 650 MHz Athlon gives him 50-60 FPS no problem. Part of the problem is the port, part the L3-cache-less processor, and the other part is that PCs are SO much better for gaming.
Sigh.

Let me get in the line, and complain a bit too. I love UT, can someone make a pot that has some decent speed? Please?
I love UT, and so many others love it too...can you guys maybe spend some time porting it? I might even pay for it (a little, since I already bought UT).

guys it was free. Done with her own free time and she never had to do it in the first place. I too wish I could play UT under X but it's a sad fact that it just is not there yet and never will be.
So if you really want to play that bad boot into 9 (I know I know) and hopefuly we will have a chrismas present known as UT2K3 instead

I manage to get ok speeds out of UT X, but I miss the music so much. I just wish UT would run better through Classic...

pot and speed? Wrong forum
No, we can't make a pot because we don't have the code.

I realize UTX would bring in zero money for Westlake. But porting this wildly popular game (the demand is there I think, no?) would show that Westlake cares about their customers.
They'd certainly get an A+ in my book and I'd feel more compelled to buy their ports knowing that they're providing excellent support and not just porting for the heck of it.
Seriously, Monkey Island 4 was short lived on my computer...because I switched to X a week later. Westlake never promised OS X support so I can't really bitch at them since I bought the game knowing that their might never be an OS X port but I would have really be impressed if they ported these games to X.
Right now I see Westlake as a company that doesn't really give a damn about their customers. They'll port a game...get their money...and then that's it, you can almost forget about future support unless it's in a contract (there were few exceptions...but the emphasis is on 'few').

Don't get me wrong...I appreciate what she's done, but really, she's the only one who CAN do it. Plus, there is still a HUGE following of UT, and the UT2k3 issues have resulted in them staying with the older version.
Plus, UT2k3 will be even more of a dog on my machine, I'd say. So it's a moot point. UT is a great game, but I'd just like more speed...I care less about music or anything else. Just speed.

First of all, gamers are not Westlake's "customers". Game publishers are. They pay Westlake to port a game. Their contract may or may not include provisions for getting paid for updates.
The OS X version of UT is wonderful gift to the Mac community from Glenda. There is no compensation for Glenda or Westlake, and no apparent interest from MacSoft for paying for an X native version of a three year old game.
There are lots of examples of programmer charity like this - brad Oliver's carbonization of Alpha Centauri springs to mind - and I for one appreciate all of them.
Also keep in mind that any work Glenda does on UT takes her away from her current "paying job", namely Everquest. There are deadlines to meet for this game and I'm sure Glenda would rather sleep in her spare time than code UT.

OK
It's 12/09/2002 and UT2K3 for the Mac is supposed to be released "in time" for Christmas. WTF has anyone heard any progress, sneak peeks or delays?
I'm so anxious.

Here's a little 'programmer-speak' translation for you:
"...real soon now" = We've just begun work
"...in time for Christmas" = Christmas NEXT YEAR
"We're currently working on it" = We're not working on it right now
"It's done!" = It has to go through iD, you won't see it for another 4 months

iD doesn't make UT2k3. Epic Games does.
Have a little faith.

I'm making reference to Westlake and their many iD game ports. In particular Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

My UT Xp3 has been fairly decent. I even upgraded to a Radeon 9000Pro and was getting 40fps in X. No complaints but not as good as 9 of course.
Then, I didn't play for while, updated Jag from 10.2.1 to 10.2.2 since. I also just intalled a GeForce 4Ti and tried to play. It wouldn't allow me to select OpenGL as a graphics type and mouse functionality disappeared. So I can't select card type if I change First Run to True. Now it's just either erroring out or during tytle screen or CityIntro, I can't press escape or anything to get to the UT desktop. Help! I may need to reinstall from scratch in 9.

Yeah...but I mean, I play on a sniper server, and 40 FPS just doesn't cut it. That means in battles, I get 25 FPS...which sucks.

I second that and I'm a little miffed that they excluded the sniper rifle all together. I'll stick with UT, OS9 and Fraggalonia. What sniper servers do you play on?

I would be more than happy to send Glenda 5 to 10 dollars to continue work on the port. But it would take alot more support than I can provide to make a difference.

I'd send in 10 bucks too if it would speed up anything.
