This is great news...the Mac is really in need of more racing games. If the port is as cool as JK2 and if there's support for HID (Force Feedback coming in 10.2.3...does NASCAR Racing 2002 for PC support force feedback?), I'm certainly going to buy it.

Holy crap...it's already in duplication. I love surprises like these...I wish there were more things left unannounced like this. It's always so much better to get hit right smack in the face with this kind of news.

Edit: HOLY CRAP! PARTS REWRITTEN IN ALTIVEC AND FORCE FEEDBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately for Feral...NASCAR 2002 sitting next to F1 2000 won't be pretty.

Well...there will be people that just don't know the difference...but then there's going to be people like me that tried the F1 2000 demo and weren't very impressed and then look at NASCAR with richer graphics and AltiVec enhancements (not that I know how much better the game is with AltiVec enhancements ) and pick NASCAR over F1 even though I dislike NASCAR and love F1 races.

Yes, Nascar supports force-feedback via the HID Manager on certain Immersion devices (it's mainly dependent on what devices will be supported by the OSX Immersion driver). I'll probably add it to JK2 since it supported FF as well; unfortunately there was no OS-level support in place before JK2 shipped. Force-feedback support in OSX is a great step forward!

Is that what the driver is called? Immersion? Does it have other goodies? Is it actually in 10.2.3? I'm getting all excited.

Will my iShock II's force feedback work with these drivers?? Will I be able to use my iShock II with NASCAR Racing 2002 or just wheels?

So many questions...

I'm all happy because today I found out the problem with my computer (after 2 months of playing with hardware and software), TCP/IP through FireWire and now NASCAR and Immersion!!!

I love you all!

Mmmm, nice... Altivec.

I guess I made up on my mind between a new iBook 800 or PowerBook 867.

Immersion is a 3rd party library that allows force feedback devices to talk to the OS via common calls. Next time you're in Fry's or CompUSA, take a walk down the PC joystick/steering wheel aisle and look at the boxes for some FF devices. You should see the Immersion logo on a number of them.

Not only Altivec, but even SMP support. This game will be wonderful.

I didn't read any mention about SMP in the announcement of nascar 2002 on westlake"s website. Is it? Brad?

I didn't do the programming on it (that was Duane), but my understanding is that there are a number of threads that run simultaneously in the game. I believe these are implemented as preemptive threads on the Mac, which means that it'll make good use of multiple CPUs while running. It's my understanding that the complicated preemptive threading issues were what prevented an OS 9 version.

As I said before, I can't speak definitively on that, but I'm at least 90% sure.

The requirments are either 733 MHz G4 or Dual 500 MHz, so yes it supports multiprocessors.

Quartz Extreme...

Whether it has something to do with the logic board or a bug in Quartz Extreme though is going to be near impossible for me to figure out. Either Apple fixes the problem for free or I just keep QE disabled forever (not a big loss IMO).

Edit: Bad news...NASCAR 2002 for Mac can't network with PCs...but that's Papyrus/Sierra's sucktacular decisions of using DirectX for all their games.

Is Ken Williams still president of Sierra, or have all the cool old skool programmers actually left their own company to wither?

Hm...I have not seen this game before, but it looks really neat. You guys seem to have played this game before. How well did it run, and what system did you run it on? I have a Ti800, and wondering if I will be able to ENJOY this game, becasue after playing the F1 demo I am really disappointed...the graphics sucks and it is choppy.
Interesting, RtCW, or MOH plays just fine at high res.
