Why does Q3 default back to the 640 x 480 resolution when I put it on something higher than 1024 x 768?

1024 x 768 is ugly on my monitor (Cinema HD Display) since it does not stretch all the way across. Is there a way to fix this?

i just recently developed a problem where it says it's running 640x480, but it's really in 800x600. and whenever i host a game in basequake3, it still has the OSP promode server settings :/

Yeah, I have this exact same problem in Quake III on my powerbook with the ATI 64mb 9000. At 1024x768, it doesn't use the entire screen (sides are blacked out), however as you described if I change it to a higher res, it goes back to 640x480.

Hopefully this is an ATI 9000 issue. Since Apple has yet to release real drivers for this card (OS X 10.2.2 is using ATI 8500 drivers) yet.

As I stated in another forum, I setup a vpr matrox for someone (you know the machine made by porche that is suppose to compete with the powerbook) and at 1024x768 in Quake III the vpr machine uses all the screen on its 15.2 wide display.
