I knew it was coming but apparently the demo has been out for awhile. Why wasn't I told this?
I suppose What's-His-Face is gonna tell me I should have done the 'research'.

Edit: although it feels quite carbon-ish.
I hope their new version of Eric Solitaire will feel a little less carbon-ish.

Yeah...I don't really have time for 'em but I like to know what's out. I got a whole collection of old console games ROMs but I rarely touch any of 'em.
I wish I could suspend time so I could play all the games I want.

Unless they've updated to 5.0fc6, the current version is time limited and disabled. It also requires a full key. They've been time limiting the versions to force people to keep current in the beta testing. Been helping them test for the last month. The spaceward ho.net feature is really cool. You have to gain points online to gain access to features in the maps. This doesn't mean that you'll need to play other people, but you will need to play online. As far as I can see anyways.

I never understood this game. I've tried it so long time but got confused so I deleted it.
What's the point of that game? Is it similar to Escape Velocity?

It's more like Master of Orion for Dummies. Star Conquest (?) is a comparable game. No real diplomacy per se. It's a game of galactic conquest where you colonize planets and defeat your enemies. It's lots of fun though once you get into it. The AI in this game is really well done. I've been getting my ass handed to me more and more by the computer lately.
Looks like they posted a new version and didn't notify the beta list. I only wish that other games (HoMMIV) could learn from this and program a decent AI. I'm damn impressed at how ruthless the computer can be at even the lower level AI settings.

The copy I downloaded on 12/04 worked just fine for me (from the DeltaTao web site).
I'd tell you the version, but I've been without power for the past 36 hrs thanks to the lovely ice storm (thankfully we have power at work)

I got the demo. I played it and threw it away. There is a certain old school feeling in Ho! but besides that it is just as bad as it has always been. Is it *that* hard to make a decent turnbased game? The strength of many turnbased games lies in the depth of the gameplay, but Ho! is just a Master of Orion for dummies as somebody said. Not worth my time. I wouldn't recommend it.

Hmm. This is exactly what appeals to some of us. I don't have the time or energy to learn one of the very deep turn-based strategy games. Ho! requires almost the exact amount of energy I want to apply to something like this. I *do* recommend it for a quick and dirty splash of strategy.
And I resent being called a dummy.

Indeed. In some of those "deep" games, you feel like you have to go to the level of telling the citizens to take a bath and remember to wipe their a%%.
No thank you.
I think its great to see Ho! live on.

Ha, I think I just found an easter egg! If you see a planet named "Kansas" in the game, colonize it. Then move your colony ship off the planet and evacuate. See what happens.

It looks like an interesting game.. the demo is _extremely_ limited, however, and there's no way I'm playing US$40 for something that is, at best, shareware quality.

Something special also happened with planet "Hope" (in version 4.5).

It's not shareware quality. It's just an old-fashioned turn based game that doesn't require investing hours and hours of learning. It has a great AI compared to most games, and it's supposed to be light hearted.
I play games about once a month due to time constraints. It's nice to be able to play a game without having to spend an hour remembering how to play it. I haven't played Ho since v4. I played v5 twice today and it was great to play it again.
They did a nice job on it and I think it's very much worth the money.
I just downloaded v5.03 today. Not sure if this is brand new or not.

Am I the only one that thinks this is not a very good expression? There's crappy shareware and there's awesome shareware, just like there are crappy and awesome commercial apps.
Maybe I'm just sensitive because there isn't a single commercial app which is useful or important enough to me that it needs to reside in my dock! (well, unless you count the finder:-)

Im a poor student and this is a great game. However, for 40 $, its a little too much. I checked on serial surfer and you will not be able to have a working serial

What is shareware, anyway? I think it was Andrew Welch who noted that QuickTime is sort of a Shareware app - use the limited version for free, but pay if you want the full features. Same could be said for programs from Aladdin, Symantec and a few others - usable demos, and then download the full version or a serial number to unlock your demo.

I would like to strongly second this thought.
I think I'll go ahead and send them an email to this effect. I encourage all that feel the same to do the same.
Loved Ho. Still have my Version 3 floppy.
Loved SC even more. I think I have an original floppy of it, before it's name changed.
Bought Ho5 over a month ago, and have been playing a lot.
Would love to kick your ass in a new SC over the internet, and would buy this in a heart beat.
