Here's the deal:

You play for a while, and then BAM! all of a sudden the game stops. I need to force quit the program, then start it back up again. (This is on OS X, of course)

Does this happen to any of you? If so, have you fixed it? (Even if you haven't, just say that it causes the same problems so I don't feel like the odd man out)

yes, to the point that i went a little mad.

freezes without fail in osx and is made not playable, gee am i glad i bought that one...

even causes the usually unflapable os9 to have a fit which is weird considering the demo used to work fine (though 9 seems more unstable these days for me anyway).

crap like this has hastened my leaving the mac world of games for anything but emulation and the fact my console does not crash!

i have no answer to the instability of oni, nor have i fixed it.

i hope this has made you feel better

way back when when i played it last. i found that the saved game file would become corrupted then it would always freeze unless you deleted it and restored from a backup. this time keep a pre crash copy handy.

Try using an older version of Omni's OSX port. Although it has a graphics bug with nVidea cards, it doesn't have the sound bug that causes the game to crash.

Oni v1.31

Many thanks.

Alas, I do have a nVidia card and the models sometimes have glossy faces (which looks pretty cool), but the same doesn't stop one bit, and I like it much better.

I know the Omni Group ported Oni for free, but the sound bug in the latest version (1.33) is so obvious and so disruptive, that I cannot imagine how they didn't see it.

They did notice it, but they've got so much on their plate that projects like the Oni port (described as "for-fun") get neglected. From http://www.omnigroup.com/games/oni/ :

"Application Hangs: It's a bug in the sound code; we plan to fix this in our next release. (No idea when that release may be just yet; for-fun projects like this one have to be scheduled around the ones we do to pay the bills.)"

It's been almost a year since the last release. Perhaps if we all e-mailed them requesting an update we might get somewhere. I have a feeling they're hard at work on OmniWeb revisions, though.

This happened to me as well - gave up trying to play Oni, waste of money really. I don't know why they even released that 'update' though. Seems to crash on everyone.
