BioWare is working on an installer for NWN. Why?
I hate you BioWare!

Yeah...but I'm wondering if this thing was beta-tested enough? I think I'll wait awhile before buying NWN...I suspect it's going to be buggy. But I'd love to be proved wrong.

I bet it'll be bugtastic and supah-slow.
However, it will still be an excellent game

With 800MHz G4 as a minimum requirement, it is bound to be slow.

Wow...I hope BioWare won't be too disappointed with their Mac sales.

800 MHz minimum? They'll sell like 200 copies, and that'll mark the end of Bioware's Mac support.
Hell, I'll need a new machine to run that. 'Tis a pity I've resigned myself to wait for 970's.

800 MHz? It doesn't require that much on Intel chips! What have they been DOING? Geh.. if I can convince my father to let me temporarily turn his FCP workstation into a gaming machine, I could play it.. and my laptop is 800 MHz but a G3.. this is ridiculous.

Yeah, but the only difference between a G3 and G4 is altivec. Does anyone know what NWN is doing to leverage altivec?

All OpenGL games take advantage of Altivec since parts of OpenGL are optimized for Altivec.

Don't jump to any conclusions about the minimum system requirements yet. Doing that is just Dumb™. (even if they turn out being right)
There has been *no* official declaration of what the minimum requirements will be, the only mention of it has been something a guy from Bioware mentioned in passing in an interview and the fact that they are known to use 800MHz development machines.
As per
the Mac Update page:
"Look for a press release from MacSoft concerning release dates and system requirements in the future."

Heh their latest update was a bit interesting:
[Dec 20 2002] This will be the last OS update for the year 2002 as we are off on our Christmas break. Our next OS update is scheduled for Friday, January 10th, 2003.
QA Testing and bug fixing continue on the Mac client and server. We now have a functional installer. OS 10.2.3 has provided some interesting challenges for us as everything under 10.2.2 that was working has suddenly broke, including all the models basically disappearing from the game. Weird. We will solve this in the new year. Good news about 10.2.3 is S3 texture compression which brings this feature to the Mac that we were already benefiting from under Linux and Windows.
Watch for Neverwinter Nights at MacWorld San Francisco. If you ever wanted to play Neverwinter Nights with an authentic BioWare employee, this will be your chance. Normally, we would not be able to attend because our Canadian bodies cannot stand the dramatic climate change from winter, but we have had an individual in a rigorous training program and he is starting to adapt well to temperatures above the +10 Celsius/+50 Fahrenheit line.

Everything that was working in 10.2.2 is now broken in 10.2.3, ehh?
That's not a good sign.

NWN just won PC RPG of the year at GameSpot, by the way.
Just one more reason to make us mad we must wait!

So...I thought NWN was supposed to be released like at the beginning of 2003? And here we are nearly halfway through the year and nothing. Anyone have any idea when it's gonna ship? Probably not, but thought I'd take up some bandwidth. :-)

It was supposed to ship LAST FREAKIN' JUNE! It was to be a "simultaneous Mac, PC and Linux release" (!!!).
Then they dropped the bomb on us (like 3 days before the June release of the Windoze version) that the Mac version basically was at 0%, and that we'd get no toolset when it came out "in fall." A few days later, we heard we WOULD be getting a toolset, but NWN wouldn't be out until the very end of 2002. Then, a few months ago, we found out they CANCELLED THE TOOLSET, and still have no release date. It's now (basically) June, nearing a year since the "simultaneous" release, and we have nothing but a bloated system requirements list and a few screenshots of it running windowed in OS X. Bioware has pissed off a lot of people...
Search this forum for NWN threads and you'll find they all are (mostly) heated hate-fests. I'm certainly not gonna buy the Mac version (already played the PC version, and it's not as good as BG2 anyway).
EDIT: I direct y'all to this thread started two weeks before the original release date: http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...;highlight=nwn

*DAMMIT*
Bioware is a difficult company. They've released the Linux version of NWN, right?

I just figured that they were waiting for me to get out of school before they released it. Now that it's almost June, however, I guess that I'll need to rethink my initial narcissistic ramblings.
Oh, well, I'm a sucker, so I'll buy it regardless

I think they're waiting for you to start school again and get closer to your exam period.

Nope. When I said get out I meant done.
No more school needed.
They'll be releasing it any day now. I can feel it
