Well, I got NOLF for Christmas, and I gotta say this game is a lot of fun. I'm using a 867MHz PowerMac G4, with a GeForce 2MX, and I haven't seen any performance issues. I'm playing at a 800x600 resolution and the "average perforce/graphics" setting, and the graphics look fine to me. The sound and voices are great. The music is cool also. And the action is great, mixing in a bit of stealth activity.

According to the listed requirements, a G3 & ATI Rage128 are supported, but I can understand why such folks would be disappointed in the game.

A few quirks: If you Get Info on the game, no version number is stated. If you open the package contents and look at the .plist file, you'll see it's the default one generated by Project Builder. Even though the game is OSX-only, there is a classic NOLF executable buried in the package. The package also includes a bunch of version-control config files.

None of those things affects the actual game, but it does imply that MacPlay was in a hurry to get the game published in time for Christmas. I haven't tried the classic executable, but my guess is that it doesn't work.

Is there a website and/or demo for the game?

I tried the game on a "Beige" G3/500 with the Rage 128 Orion (32meg on board), and performance can charitably described as "uneven". Like most 3d game, smaller indoor spaces play fine, while larger outdoor spaces are jerky. And if there are lots of non-player characters active, the game crawls.

The animatic sequences, however, are smooth. Still, I'm holding off playing until I upgrade to a dual 1 gig later this year :-)

Well...if it's any consolation, you are playing a 1 1/2 year old game on a 3 year old card and a 4 year old computer.
