Hello all. Let me first state that I did a search throught the forum for this information, but didn't find much.

My quetsion is for all of the people who have played Rune. _Not_ Rune:Halls of Valhalla.

Question:
What are your experiences with the game Rune?

The reason I ask, is that I have recently ordered this game as it was reeeealy cheap.

Thanks a ton,

Ryan

feel free to e-mail me about this if you want.

I played the demo a while back which lets you play about 2 full levels. It ran awesome on my system with all settings at max and resolution at 1024X768 and was fairly fun... if it's super cheap I'd go for it... but I wouldn't pay more than $25 for it. That's just my opinion though.

Rune is an immersive game. You feel like that you are wondering through a Nordic world. Think of it as Max Payne, only with Vikings.

Yeah, I liked it too. The sounds were particularly impressive, although I DID have a Soundblaster powering them (worst purchase I ever made).

I had a blast playing Rune single player. Multiplayer was OK, nothing special. Don't think it runs in X (even Classic).

I loved Rune -- one of the most immersive games I've ever played. It's also REALLY REALLY optimized -- it rarely slowed down at 1280x1024 w/near-max settings on my then-somewhat-current DP450/Radeon.

If it's less than $30, go for it.
Be happy.

ha! After posting a reply to this a while ago, I got curious and checked out gogamer.com and found rune for.... $7.90!!! Needless to say, I picked that up... it runs great on my machine but only OS 9 support I think. Oh well... luckily I have a mac that can boot into OS 9.

Thanks All,

I now have Rune, and I must say that I absolutely love it!

Though, I can't figure out how the heck to get out of the first "level."

Online play is great, even in classic. I hear that Rune: Halls of Valhalla is even better for onlin-ness...

Thanks again,

Ryan

Yeah, the first level is a bit tough. If I remember correctly its the one where you have to dive in a underwater cavern?

The best thing about Rune was the multiplayer, in my opinion. Really fun throwing those axes!

I really want an OS X port, I wish Aspyr would contract westlake to finish UTX, a Deus Ex / Rune port would be easy after that and they could re-release them as a budget series.

UTX won't be worked on any more, expecially with UT 2003 coming out "real soon now." It was a side project by one of the programmers only, not for paying the bills.

Unreal Tournament 2003 was an Epic in-house port and it has nothing to do with UTX's development. Except perhaps that Westlake might think nobody would want the old UT in X anymore, but I think they get the idea.

UTX has just been set aside so they can work on commercial projects, not cancelled.

Glenda Adams seems to genuinly want UT working in X herself, or so I gather from all the interviews she has given.

PS: What I said about re-releasing was just wishful thinking, I know there's no real chance that it will happen.
