Game developers already know that people would like all the games to be optimized for MP computers. However, you folks don't seem to understand that some games can't be optimized for SMP use there are. Some games could be, but may require a complete rewrite of the engine which could easily double or triple development time. People already complain about how long the quick Mac ports take. Doubling or tripling the average time will just make those people complain even more. No petition will be able to jack about it.
You can be sure that the Mac developers will add SMP if feasible.

I'm sure that there are easier ways to port an app in the future sometime so it comes standard with every ported game. It's going to have to be a reality soon enough, because games are getting more and more complicated (in reference to graphics), and if current Macs (like mine, currently the best one) don't fly through CURRENT games, there's no way Macs will be prepared for games in the future. Dual support is a must!

Delays and increased development costs don't make much sense from a business standpoint. But as a former dualie owner, I can understand the customer point of view too. So where does that leave us?....joe

but look at what 85% of games for mac are based on, the Q3 engine, whaich has FULL SMP support, and even games that don't can have it, I mean Tim over at Omni is making a update for SoF2 for full SMP support, how hard can it be if one guy at omni can do it huh? and if the engine already supports it there is almost no excuse. right now here are a few games I know o fthat have SMP in the engine but its not applied o the game.

MOH:AA
RtCW
Alice
JK2
NOLF (i think is Q3)
ST: Elite Force

and those are just a few off the top of my head. It seems liek Mac pLay has gotten the idea, SoF2 is goign to be SMP, AvP2 will be if its nto fast enough they told me, but they should still do it i think, I mean what can it hurts, hell i'd wait an extra month for a game if i kew i would get SMP support.

Last I heard, he's only adding it to the multiplayer app. I can understand why, having gone down a similar path with JK2, which is based on a lot of the same Q3 engine enhancements.

Fact is, it's _really_ hard to add SMP support unless the game already has support at a basic level. I do all my development on a DP/800, and it's not like I wouldn't spent the extra time if it were at all possible. The sad truth is that in most cases, it's not.

By the way, in how many other forums have you posted this same message?

Well, I know Tim, and I really wouldn't assume something is easy just because Tim can do it.
