While not really that much like Descent (Well, actually they have very little in common) Vendetta is a fun space-blow-up-that-ship game. (and free to boot) Just a warning it has no single player mode... yet. http://www.guildsoftware.com/

Cool. I'm going to try Vendetta out now.

I'll post back when I see how it goes.
Warning: you have to give a bunch of info and start an account before you can play, since it's test software. Sounds promising, though.

OH WOW. Vendetta is awesome! Oh man, what a brilliant idea for a game. It's very cool so far. I highly, highly suggest it. ANd the bump-mapped asteroids! *drool* Very nice. Be sure to tone down your draw distance complexity and adjust your settings. It almost gave my GeForce 3 a heart attack.

Lots of signing up and stuff. Little confusing at first, but the community was very helpful. Try it out.

What a great response, I totally didn't expect that. I think I'll go try Vendetta out right now... hehe

It's really neat once you get past the confusing controls (it is space, after all, and I didn't read the manual ). So far, I guess you could say it's kind of like an online multiplayer game where you buy ships (you can have a stock of ships, apparently) and trade items for credits. You battle for credits with your teammates. Like 10 sectors to go to. All in beautiful space. I've only been to two sectors, and I haven't battled yet, but I think I will go back and explore. Read some of the manual, too.

Name's MindFad on there. Say hello if you see me. And I chose the red team.

Whoa, awesome. I was discouraged when I read that the requirements suggest a 16 meg graphics card at least... This Pismo has only 8 megs, yet the game ran fairly well and I hardly tweaked settings at all.

The game is beautiful, I didn't play for long, maybe 2 minutes of roaming around and shooting stuff, but I'll give it a try later again. Read the manual, bah! By the way, this seems like the major update to Escape Velocity we've been waiting for for 6 years (network/3d play).

Also, I am [APi]TheMan on there, and I'm blue. Rawr!

Read my last post here for a list.

Also, Duane Johnson is working on a OS X port of Descent 3
