Riiight. Do the intro and outro play? Does the game swithch resolutions correctly? Is the mouse operation as it should be.
Basically, is it like Oni for OS 9?
(And why are there two versions of Oni for OS X? One made by Omni and another by ... someone - the CD I bought had a carbonized Oni, but not 1.33 and not by Omni afaik)

I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

yep, seems to work fine. no audio hang ups or freezes from what i can see. and my mouse speed is back to normal after playing the game.
oni always worked in X, it was carbonized when it came out. then some time later, omni came out with their port. why? i have no idea. because they could?

Yes, our latest release has all the features of the OS 9 version.
oni always worked in X, it was carbonized when it came out.
Only for extremely small values of 'work'. The original release was written and tested against Mac OS X Public Beta, and wasn't officially "supported" on X. When 10.0 came out, a lot was broken -- most considered it unplayable and booted back into 9 in order to play.
then some time later, omni came out with their port. why? i have no idea. because they could?
Since Bungie had just been swallowed by MS and GodGames was falling apart (nowadays they're just a Take2 label, not an independent publisher), Oni was effectively disowned, and wasn't likely to be updated for playable OS X support. We managed to secure the source in spring 2001 and had a port up and running pretty quickly; working out Bink video issues (for the intro and ending movies) and getting permission to release the finished product took until late summer. Why? Because several of us really enjoy the game, and because at the time we were taking on a few game ports pro bono in order to get started on our way to paying work in the porting business.
(In the almost two years since Mac OS X 10.0 came out, some OS updates have helped restore various degrees of functionality to the original Oni release. Some have reported it playable on this or that OS X version. Others have reported it completely broken. Your mileage may vary. I just tried it on 10.2.3 and got a nonfunctional black title screen and had to force quit. And it resized all my windows! Stupid.)

Now if someone could "re-own" it and make some new maps, levels, maybe a sequel, or even Multiplayer?!?!
I still think its one of the best games I've ever played.
BTW...thanks OMNI for your support on this game! Greatly appreciated!

I have had Oni working better than ever on OS X since the patch. To black screen, no hangs. Thanks so much to the OmniGroup for this. Now maybe I can finish it.

Nope, no CD needed. Is anything printed to the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) when you try to run Oni?

Yeah, it works great! It even seems to run smoother. Thanks!
Now I need to get after those Ambrosia people to port Aperion.
By some miracle, both Gridz and Bubble Trouble were both carbonized and they were the games I always loved on the Mac.
I wonder if Half Life will ever be open sourced, I bet somebody could make a kick ass port.

I'll be able to play it for the first time ever! My multi-button mouse wasn't fully supported in 9 and the game didn't run in X, so I've never played it properly! I bought it about a year ago if not more. It'll be interesting to see if it's any good.
Thanks Omni - I realise there was no financial gain for you doing this. It's much appreciated.
