LOL!
Anyways...when it does come out, it won't even play like the original Halo since it'll have been modified to fit the 'mouse and keyboard' gameplay instead of a 'controller' gameplay. This means that a huge portion of the game has to changed. I don't know how big exactly, but I'm sure the folks at Westlake could enlighten us on this.

Don't know where they got 2006. Maybe that's for Halo 2 on the PC and Mac.
Westlake is currently working on the port of Halo, I would think it will be out this summer. See my last post in this thread:

The latest game from Bungie Oni, came way later than promised and had several cutbacks with no multiplayer and severly restircted interaction with the environment, it was still a good game.
A game like Screeming Deamons over Europe was even more ambitous for its time. The ned result was that the port dragged on for years and when it finaly was killed nobody cared about it.
The final fate of Halo for the Mac really depend on the state of the code and portability. As I recall it was originally ment for PC then changed for the X box and I assume that a port to the Mac really is a port back to the PC and then from that code base to a Mac??
If the code is higly portable and everthing else affecting the effort goes the right way we will have a very nice game shortly after the Windows version. If the code is hard to port and other complications it can go like Oni or like SDOE.
I was sure that Ailiens vs Predators 2 ( with the Lithtech engine) would be out last xmas or so but there is still no sign of it so there is vvery little point in trying to secondguess the time of a port.

halo was originally supposed to come out as a pc game before microshite swooped in and bought the whole damn company. so therefore, getting it ready for the pc wouldn't be a problem at all. the reason it's taking so long from what i've read, is that they're adding some extras to it. stuff that didn't get a chance to be included in the original xbox version.

Okay... forgive me, I do not frequent this area of the forum(s)... but as a consumer... I am annoyed as hell that Halo is not already on the Mac.
It was conceived by a Mac-loving company FOR the Mac platform. It was demo'd at a MacWorld Conference at the Apple Keynote as a game that will be Mac-First. This company was all-about the Mac platform.
Even if you remove my contempt for MicroSoggy from the equation, it is extremely frustrating to see a gaming concept that was originally developed for my (our) platform of choice, be delayed by YEARS while the game was released for a console LONG-ago.
I miss the 'old' Bungie?.
I guess I could just "get over it" and wait for the next great thing... but it just bugs me. Sorry to pout about it... but just wanted to vent my disapointment.
Thanx.

Halo was designed and produced on PC's, in close collaboration with nVidia, who supplied them with Geforce boards.

Halo was indroduced at Macworld 1999 and demoed on the Mac showing realtime rendering. nVidia wasn't even a Mac client at the time. It was to come out to the Mac AND Windows in 2000.
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/9907/21.halo.shtml
When Bungie 'sold out' the game was very close to shipping and wasn't gonna work on the XBox in its current form so it was modified to fit the 'console' and switched from 3rd person to 1st person. So, to me, this killed the 'unique' game we were going to see, and the game immediatly went into limbo for the Mac and Windows. Its 3 years late here, and what did they do... Drop it in the hands of another company to do for them, while they move to other things (XBox version of Halo2). They really are independent and are Mac friendly as they used to be.

One odd thing about Oni is that it doesn't play as well on my 2Ghz 64mb nVidia custom built PC. My little FP iMac 800 at home plays it a lot smoother. -the intro video is in a corner but the game is smooth as glass.
I really wonder if Halo will play well on a Mac or PC? I'm so sick and tired of hearing next month we'll get the port of whatever game.
