I just got my 12" PB and WC3 runs beautifully. Is there any way I can run this game without having to insert the CD everytime I launch it? Is there a patch of some sort?

It's fine when I'm at home playing it on my desktop but it's downright annoying to have to insert the CD when I'm on the road with my powerbook or in a plane and have to fish for the CD from my bag if I even remembered to bring it in the first place. Very inconvenient to have to put it in... is there a different install scheme where everything on the game CD is transferred to to the HD making it a self-sufficient app?

btw, I'm running OS X 10.2.3 (build 6H2B)

Thanks.

Sorry, but this the way it is. Until gaming companies start using their heads, we as consumers will be stuck with these lame attempts at "thwarting" piracy. There aren't many games on the market today that don't require the CD as a key in order to play a game. Really sucks when you have a laptop and you want to save batteries and also not have to carry around a CD case.

After an exhaustive search, I found what you're talking about.

A "NO-CD crack for mac" that can be found here: http://wcgalaxy.com/modules.php?name...oad&cid=30

and it works like a charm! This is so awesome. I'll never have to carry my stupid game CD with me ever again! (not like I even remember to bring it with me half the time anyway)

I wish you would've found it for me earlier before I wasted all that time looking for it on the web. Oh well, it's only sleep -- I can get that back.

just be careful with that no-cd crack. if you use that crack and play battlenet, you might get your account erased and/or get your cd key banned.

Good point. Seeing as how it's not really a "crack" but instead an innocent hack by which a .dmg file was created using the original CD's image minus the big extraneous files, maybe this .dmg file has a different "signature" than a .dmg file that I create with own game CD. Perhaps if I perform a similar hack by making a .dmg file of my own game CD assuming each one has a special code that can be read by software. It's not piracy or anything. I just want to be able to play the darn game on my notebook without using the CD.

This copy protection scheme plain sucks for people who play on notebooks running batteries. That spinning optical drive probably cuts down a lot of valuable playtime not to mention being loud and annoying.

I can confirm that the small .dmg works just fine with battle.net. I've been using it for months now, and have never had a problem. If you notice, the WC CD is only accessed once during the game, and that's at startup when it checks for it. Other than that, it just sits there. So all it needs is that one file to check and it's good. It doesn't get checked again. Go ahead and use it, it's very convenient and the best alternative to lugging around that CD.

Thanks for the reassurance.

that's good news. i was scared to try this 'hack' in light of blizzards overzealous crack down on "cheats/hacks".

overzealous? have you ever played diablo or diablo ii? on those games, the hacks are undeniable. obviously they're around on the other games as well. hacks kill games. i don't see their enforcement as overzealous, more like WELCOME. anywho, i don't play games anymore
