Hello,

I've got a beige 266, PCI radeon, 352mb ram running jag.2.3.
I downloaded the quake3 demo(1.3.2)

It quits it's self before opening...

Is there any way to get it to work on my machine? Anyone else have this problem? Should I use a different version?

Thanks dudes

See if the pak0.pak3 file is intact in the Quake3/baseq3 folder. There have been some cases where the file has gone missing, and the program doesn't open.

I used pacifist to open the pkg, but there is no pak0 file there!
I also tried creating a blank file pak0.pak3 using text edit, doesn't work...

Basically the package is missing the file which is abit crap.

I'm not 100% sure where I ftp'd it from, I think it was the id server...

Suggestions?

Actually, it's a matter of practicality. The pak in question is 450megs or better iirc. Well, it could also be an anti-piracy measure too.

Yeah, look on your Quake3 CD in the baseq3 folder if you bought the game. If you're looking for the free demo the game is so old that it's OS9 only. You can find that on MacGamefiles iirc......joe

Is the file in question the same for OS9/OSX?
I thought I was downloading the OSX demo? That is what it was called anyway!

I have such a small HD that it I erased OS 9 months ago, and I'm not putting it back on.

This is going to take a while to explain. There are 2 different Quake3 demos for Mac. To understand why you have to remember Quake3 is rather old by now and was released long before OSX. So the FREE playable demo normally released with an id game was written to run in OS9.

Later on when Apple released OSX, id also released an OSX update to Quake3 (v1.27). It required the original Quake3 CD for the large 420meg pak0.pk3 file. But it had several bugs and was an unofficial and unsupported update, so id referred to it an OSX demo. Id finally released the official v1.32 OSX update along with PunkBuster support and removed the "demo" status. However, ALL OSX versions of Quake3 from v1.27 through v1.32 require the original Quake3 CD specifically for the missing pak file. The freely playble demo is v1.11 iirc and does not require any additiona files, but is OS9-only......joe

Get any Q3 CD (can even be Windows) and copy the file over. It's very big (approx. 450 MB). It should start after that.
