i cant seem to figure out which gamepad will work with emulation? can someone please point me in the right direction? do you need additional software for it to work with emulation?

It depends on the emulator. Some have it, some don't. Sixtyforce for one doesn't have it so you will need either USB Overdrive X or GamePad Companion.
hey thanks for the info. say macmame for example. i dl a demo of gamepad companion but when i try to use my ms sidewinder with macmame it doesnt work. to be honest i am a little lost with this. i am not sure how to configure it??????
