MacOSX10.2.4
Diablo II Lord of Distruction v.1.09d
iBook Summer 2002 700MHz 640MB

When running in OpenGL mode, the characters do not display properly.

For example, instead of "Level" it says "L ve ". Sometimes if even puts gibberish characters rather than just spaces. It makes the game unplayable, not considering the performance loss compared to software rendering (don't even get me started on that - a game that runs faster on software rather than on hardware rendering...)

Is anybody experiencing similar problems with the display of characters? Any workarounds apart from switching to software rendering?

Thanks,

mbotta

I'm not experiencing the character display problem. But I haven't tried D2/LoD/OpenGL since at least 10.1.5. It's not the answer you want to hear (sure as hell isn't the answer I want to give) but software mode is the best way to play D2/LoD - except for those that own Voodoo cards. D2 was optimized from the ground up for Voodoo and Glide (which is OS9 only). I wish to hell Blizzard could find a way to optimize for OpenGL too. But no such luck. And they've moved on to other projects so I doubt you'll see any improvement in D2 / OpenGL performance. Best advice, stick with software rendering. Not as much eye candy, but the frame rates don't bog down as much as OpenGL......joe

While I respect John Stiles (one of the guys or even *the* guy behind Blizzard ports these days) for porting D2 and WarCraft III, for the love of God, make them work!!! WCIII and D2 is near useless on OS X.
