Excesive Q3 on a LAN

My Reva Imac took a dump on me which I was planning on using as a server to host Excessive Q3 for my son and I on our LAN. I found that if I put the Excessive config files in the Q3 folder, I can host a game or play alone. But whhn the map changes, the app unexpectedly quits.

Anyone know how to play excessive without a server?
