I think someone needs to look up what vaporware means before posting.

LameRanger suX0rs!!11 LOL!

I've seriously never seen such a bad product. And some people seem to praise him for it. Not to mention the fact Adam Betts casually remarked.

GameRanger...a program originally made for OS 9...ported a year and a half later to OS X with next to nonexistent OS X games support. Providing ridiculous chat rooms that come with a huge list of annoying pubescent teens trying to prove something that they're not.

The app itself is shoddy.

The author is a dictator.

Seriously...if this app didn't have a monopoly for being the first to provide such a service, it would die a most wanted death.

If you knew what I was talking about, you wouldn't be posting this, so shut your pie hole.

Vaporware:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=vaporware

I would say vaporware is not the term to use.

He like to randomly block people in GameRanger from time to time. One time he blocked me cuz I asked kindly if there is any support for Pop-Pop beta in GR (I used to be a beta tester).

He abused his power too much

When I met him, he had a gerbil up his buttocks. It was disturbing.

Relax, I was only kidding about the communism part. Don't be so uptight

BTW, in case you didn't notice, LOT of comments (with three stars or below) got deleted in GR VT page. I'm not the only one.

At the risk of inciting wrath, what exactly was your comment?

"This is a substandard piece of software"

The developer reminds me of John Romero. He is so arrogant and thinks his product is so great. If you don't agree, you are banned. He bans all the newbies who are just getting into gaming. Meanwhile, all the regular users who constantly spam the chat with homo-erotic jokes and racist comments are free to say whatever they want.

You speak so much truth it brings a tear to me eye.

Seriously...Scott is probably the most egocentric, arrogant prick I've ever seen...next to myself of course.

And what makes me very sad is that Game Ranger for OS X which took almost a year to put out, reeks so bad of a carbon port (I'm guessing to maintain binary compatibility between both OS 9 and OS X) that everytime I check it out to see what progress has been done, I quickly see NO PROGRESS AT ALL.

And people kiss Scott Kevill's butt for it? I'll kiss Scott Kevill's butt too...with my boot!!!

If Scott was serious about the whole thing, he would have made two seperate binaries. Obviously the user experience and games are different on OS X. Why have the same binary?

This is one of those "Look...I got into this business first and am now reaping the rewards even though my product sucks"-Microsoftish situations.

Everytime I tried using GameRanger as was greeted by sub-standard life forms that weren't really interested in gaming but rather chatting about the most asinine of subjects.

I couldn't play a game of Nascar...even after staying online for 30 minutes asking people for a Nascar game.

GameRanger as far as I care, is easily one of the worst apps I've seen.

1.) A gamer more than anyone would need the app to be the same in both Mac OS 9 and OS X...how many times have you needed to reboot into OS 9 just to make a game play acceptably fast? And having the app be substandard would then be yet another thing to bitch about.

2.) How does a poor user community make the app itself a piece of crap? In my mind, they're two separate issues.

3.) If you don't like the app, fine. But I don't think there's any need to keep bashing the developer. How many of you have actually met him, vs are just regurgitating what others have said? If he's a prick, then so be it. Attacking his character like this is pretty low, and unneeded given the nature of these forums.

So I'm gonna ask that the Scott bashing stop. We get the idea.

Exciting Upcoming Features
That's not all, as a premium member, you'll be first in line to experience exciting new features that will be added as time goes on. Rest assured, GameRanger has evolved significantly since introduced, and it's not about to stand still!
If this is not vaporware I don't know what it is. Gameranger has evolved significantly...hum yeah whatever.

This premium service is obviously not going to work. I feel for him though because he probably isn't making squat on the ads and he has to pay his bills for the bandwidth and the server.

Does anyone know if game companies have to give him some $$$ to incorporate GR support into their programs?

God, I hope not. That would be so insane.

Companies does not pay GameSpy to have their games listed. If GameSpy support mac too, GameRanger would go down before we start to think about blinking our eyes.

GameSmith is one of the alternatives but god it's so UGLY! Only Mortal have some great possibilities to become the great service but they need to expand it to other genres than of First-Person Shooting first.
