The version of Quake 1 with all of the bump-mapping effects with stencil shadow lighting? Wowie. It looks amazing, but my poor machine can't even run the thing at the lowest res unless I'm in a small room with no enemies and facing a wall! This game is the perfect measure to give everyone an idea of what DOOM 3 will look like, except with much higher geometry levels for D3.
I suggest everyone check it out, if at least just to get an idea of what DOOM 3 will be.
Here.
I have a GeForce 3, dual 800 with 768MB of RAM, and this thing absolutely choked.
Come on, 970!

hahaha. That's intense. I don't think my Pismo 400 would run this too well...
Any screenshots?

Sure, here, I just took some. Don't try it on your PB. Your card needs to support bump-mapping anyhow.

Very intense. And they added some nice new blood, too. You can also put it into 3rd-person view. It's cool—I'd love to play it with all of the effects, but I we'll have to hold out until we get some better hardware. Like a Radeon 9700 or 9800, along with some faster G4s or 970s.

Unfortunately, the current Mac version doesn't get to take advantage of some of the advanced hardware accelerated functionality due to missing OpenGL extensions or no PC equivalent code path for the renderer. For example, there's an optimized renderer for the Radeon 9700 but not for the Radeon 8500. I've been meaning to contact the guy who did the Mac port to either get the source or submit his mac specific changes to the code tree so that others can play with the code.

The source for Tenebrae is available. Or so it says on the download page. Check it out. Well, if the performance is due to not being optimized, hopefully they fix that. It would be really cool to play Quake with those effects.

Yup, on the Mac Tenebrae is calculating the renderer differently, it's called a "generic renderer". So it's no indication of how Doom 3 will run.
The PC version however runs just fine on a GeForce 2MX in 640 by 480.

Oh, I know -- I just thought it would give people an idea of how it'll look. The effects are all basically the same, give or take. Can't wait till DOOM gets here already.
And hopefully FoD will optimize Tenebrae. And has anyone seen the stuff they've done with Quake 3? Very cool.

For any realistic optimization to take place for Macs awe will either need to get a new machine (last I asked he only has a Beige G3 with a PCI Radeon) or others will have to do the optimization.

Damn, the game totally refused to run on ma' gaming PC... hard freeze repeatedly... (P4-3.06/R9700Pro). Damn you windoze! DAMN YOU!
Don't think my DP450/Radeon or my iMac G4-700/GF2MX would handle it too well.
