First, I can't claim to be a Mac person, but I did just buy a 15" Powerbook. It is still sitting in the box, but I plan to open it this weekend. Anyway, my wife's family uses Macs and the first thing my wife talked about when we bought the Mac was some game called DarkCastle. Does anyone know what that is and does it even exist anymore? Is there some new similar game that she might like? If I did find it, would it even work on the new Powerbooks? Any help would be appreciated.

There's a company that's been working on a port/sequel of Dark Castle to OS X. You can download a beta version at Versiontracker. However, this project has been in the works seemingly forever, so I wouldn't get my hopes up of it being completed anytime soon.

Thank you very much. I was actually pretty concerned that it would goof up the new computer, so I can show her this and then she will probably just wait and see if it actually comes out. Maybe my fears are PC based, but I am just nervous about installing odd software on the new computer. I don't want to cause it to crash. I haven't even turned it on yet. Thanks again.

The beta version of Dark Castle is a little buggy, but it won't mess up your computer. The worst thing it does is just suddenly quit.

With the exception of some utility programs and hardware drivers, Mac programs don't spray weird files around your hard drive. 99% of Mac programs do absolutely nothing unless you actually open them, so if a program is acting up you can just drag it to the trash and forget about it.

I tried running Delta Tao's colorized verison of Dark Castle under Basilisk II, but the game wouldn't load. I guess because Basilisk II doesn't currently emulate sound. You could try running the old black-and-white version of Dark Castle under an emulator like vMac or Mini vMac. You can find links to all those emulators at www.macemu.com. You will, however, need a bios from the Mac you wish to emulate although they aren't hard to find.
