I too have heard nothing.
It might be one of those 15 person tests that accomplish nothing.
|
|
Be happy.

Well, I guess I should post that I signed up a while back and like everyone else I haven't heard anything. I play on my PC every once in a while though. Decent game, just hope my iMac 800 will be able to play it.

I signed up for it and got through the 3 steps for registration. I asked to test at the phase "all feature implemented" so I won't be the first. I won't buy it just want to beta test it. Played a ton on the PC, but haven't the time or patience for high level play.
BTW Anyone wanna buy a PC account with 3 years character development?

Oddly enough, Amazon is listing the arrival date of EQ:Mac as April 21st. Does that mean the beta is already well underway?

No, the thing is, Amazon is not that good at keeping the right date on some of their stuff. Apple store has it at June.

He's got a 15" superdrive iMac. So that'd be a GF2MX, I think he's got 512mb ram.

It's odd. I usually get picked for these. Those companies usually like to see what happens when I try and run a new game on my beige G3. It can...interesting.

I am in the Everquest Beta. I originally signed up with my old iBook G3, and they accepted me. But I bought a powerbook G4 like a month ago, runs pretty smooth.

You guys who are in the beta better read your NDAs, if you haven't already. If you divulge any information that you aren't supposed to, you could find yourself in some trouble.

Became of the agreement they signed for testing the game, they are not allowed to share any information to the public. If they do, they will be kicked out of the test.

well, since I know a few others here have been selected for the test, I just want to say that I got my email with the activation key this morning. I'm downloading the client right now. I've got a PB Ti. I wonder how well (and if at all) this game will run....but hey, they chose me so it's worth a shot.

Yea... that's pretty much what's going to happen. I would say a whole year after PCers got their EQ2 before we get ours.

I just got the email this morning as well. I'm looking forward to it, but it's taking me forever to download the patch for it. I'm on cable, and it's going to take me almost two hours.

Darn, I really wish I could have participated in the beta. It's annoying that its only limited to USA, when are UK users going to be able to beta test it? Shouldn't beta testing include users from all over txhe world to check for compatibility between world servers etc (hehe... making some lame excuse up now )
Enjoy EQ beta users. Some of us will only have to wait till the retail version is out in the shops. Hmm... still not sure whether I would get it, I mean having played the game for 3 years and it being old, kinda repetitive etc. Maybe I should start playing phantasy star online on xbox live. now thats a thought...

I am new to my Mac, and new to these forums. Please forgive me iffn this post has newbie errors. Recently, my pc was murdered by McAffee Antivirus. I downloaded the new patch, and my pc never booted properly again. It was a little old (Windows 98), and needed to be upgraded. The ironic attack by the anti-virus program just forced the issue. There was NO WAY I was ever going to contribute more money to the abomination that is windows, so I bought my Mac. Boy was I scared. It was expensive and I don't have all that much cash. I LOVE MY NEW PUTER! It works. It functions. Simply amazaing. The only problem is EQ. I was an avid player, and was under the impression it was to have been available for my new Mac by now. I am aching to play
You boys n girls who are beta testers are lucky, indeed. Don't go against the rules, or even the spirit of the contract regarding discussing the game. But, maybe you could be creative, like, maybe share some poetry, that would reflects your experiences with the beta
Much obliged

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the EQ;Mac version won't allow you to play in the PC universe. So any characters you have there won't be available...

I got accepted to beta test Everquest for the Mac. It runs quite smoothly and is in already in a decent state.
Minimum requirements are not set it stone but here's what they are predicting:
700Mhz or higher, at least 128MB of RAM, and an OpenGL compatible graphics card with 32MB of RAM
My system:
TiBook 500Mhz, 512MB Ram, playing via airport with belkin AP and W2K routing of DSL. Oh and of course a lowly 8MB Video Ram
(Buying a new system in June (Please release the new 15"ers))
My PC
PIII 600, 512MB Ram, Nvidia 2 64MB W2K Server
Here's what I've experienced so far:
I only have 8MB memory so only characters and small items are textured everything else is greyscale.
Zoning is 3x faster than my PC.
In about 5 hours of play I've only had 2 crashes that occured while zoning.
Fan runs 80% of time. Probably due to my weak GPU causing CPU to pick up the slack.
No sound yet or atleast on my system.
All the zones seem to be available including PoP but I only have a 8th lvl monk so I haven't ventured far.
I played for about 45min on the toilet.
I need to tweak the video settings. Perhaps I can get more textures. Also I'm running in 896 x 600 which uses the full screen and all other native and non-native video modes are available.
I played it on the PC for 3 years and only plan to beta test it for the Mac. Westlake did a great port and it feels faster than my PC (windowing, loading, movement, etc).
Any questions let me know.

There isn't an NDA and why would there be? All the in game information is well documented. Nothing new has been or will be introduced to the mac version.
If there is an NDA I never came across it. Any testers remember seeing one?

It's in section 1.1 of the beta license. Every time you run the EQ LaunchPad app, you have to click "I Agree" to get past this license. A copy is also on the EQ beta forum.
In this case, the NDA isn't necessarily to keep information about the feature set private. It's more to prevent people from posting in public about problems during the beta which will be fixed by the time it ships. I don't think anyone is going to send legal after you if you post stuff in public, but doing stuff like that doesn't help chances for future beta testing.

Makes me wonder if they'll actually do any beta-testing and not just try to be the first kid on the block to try out EQ for Mac.

i personally have been beta testing EQ since the begining of the alpha testing , and it works great. I haven't had any crashes whatsoever as opposed to some people from the beta site. As for the number of beta testers who were chosen, I beleive initially there were only 25, so I guess I got pretty damn lucky
