Anyone experienced any notable performance boosts?
From what I've read (*cough*macosrumors*cough*), there SHOULD be a notable improvement in OpenGL games...

I haven't updated yet, but what experiences have you guys had?
Be happy.

Would WC3 fall into this category? If so, has anyone seen any improvements?

I won't be able to tell for WC3, since it already ran fine before the update... so I won't be able to tell if it's any better.

I have heard that a lot of nVidia drivers were updated like the GeForce2 MX and the 420 and 440 Go series.

Although I can not report any FPS, I must say that both MOH: Spearhead demo and WWII: Online are much smoother. I now play WWII: Online with full detail.

Improvements to OpenGL. Supposedly adding some needed texture compression, or so I heard that's what the Unreal Tourney team was waiting for with OS X.

Well, that's nice. I get 20-30 less frames in Quake 3 now. Oddly enough, RTCW seems the same. Now that's odd. I'll restart and try that again. On the timedemo I run in Q3, I get 126.6 frames everytime (give or take a frame or two. Now I'm getting 100 or less. That sucks. R_SMP i still on....

For comparison's sake, post what video card you have... if you're not sure, at least specify ATI or nVidia.

I've noticed sizable gains over on the new iMac with a GF2, but the ol' DP450 with a Radeon experienced only minimal gains.

medal of honor used to run at 45 - 50 FPS with SMP on my Dual 867/512/9000

i now get 80-100 FPS w/o SMP!

fantastic.

i thought that i might as well play the single player game of MOH, and wa weird thing ahppened. the FPS was rediculously low! it was somewhere at around 10 FPS for a lot of it, and after i turned the options down really low it was a more manageable 20 - 25 FPS...

whats the deal? with everything on high, i was almost content with the multiplayer FPS ratings...why are the single player ones so insane?

What's your CPU? In single player, it has to do some AI that it doesn't need to worry about in MP, lowering framerates.

Check this out:

Xbench uses a tiny subset of OpenGL.
Some portions are much faster in 10.2.5.

Download the test from here:
http://homepage.mac.com/arekkusu/bu...fToRectTex.html

and you'll see that in this particular case 10.2.5 is about 20 times faster than 10.2.4, on ATI cards.

How often is this command used?

Any further updates? I've noticed only a very small improvement in Shadowbane, to add another piece of data here .

I couldn't see what the test was, but from what I could see of the URL, it's about texturing, which is used a lot in 3D games.

The ATI drivers had terrible problems and those who have them are seeing tremendous benefit apparently. The Radeon 9700 owners will be quite pleased.

I think that nVidia owners will see some improvement, due to OpenGL fixes.
folding@home is good for you.
