These days there are tons of Sims expansion packs with installers carbon for OS X. But I have the Sims origonal CD which you need to even play with the expansion packs. Well, the game is ported to X, BUT you still need OS 9 to initially install.
Is there anyway around this?

Well now that Sim Theme Park is supported for Mac OS X through a downloadable patch, I went ahead and put in my CD and it needed Mac OS 9 to install. I don't have Mac OS 9, so I e-mailed Aspyr on what to do.
They said that I should find a computer with Mac OS 9 installed and then copy over what it installs over to my Mac.

Exactly... that is pathetic!
Is the Sims shipping still with an OS 9 only installer?!

From my experience, you don't need the original Sims CD to play. You just need it to install it again. The expansion packs require the CD of the most recent expansion to be mounted.

I ordered mine in January from Amazon and it came with the Carbon installer.

Yea... I'm not going to buy this game until you can install it under OS X.
