I was having some kernel Panic issues with my eyetv recently, while running 10.2.3. Since upgrading to 10.2.6 I have not been having the problems. Here are some emails from El Gato support about it though:
Thank you for contacting El Gato Customer Support.
I'm sorry to hear about your Kernel Panics.
They might be due to an upgrade to 10.2.5
I'll make the assumption that you're using that
version, since other users of 10.2.5 have reported
USB-spawned kernel panics.
This issue has been covered in some depth at
various Macintosh troubleshooting sites, like:
http://www.macintouch.com
http://www.macfixit.com
Please note these two lines from the info you sent:
com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub(1.9.5)@0x22fdf000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily(1.9.5)@0x22c1d000
the IOUSBFamily.kext file might be causing
the problems. You can downgrade to the last version
at this website:
http://developer.apple.com/hardware/usb/usbloggers.htm
One thing I noted is that version 1.9.5 is associated
with Mac OS 10.2.3. If you're using that version of the
OS, then you might be having similar problems as
10.2.5 users are.
If you're using 10.2.5, but still have the 1.9.5 version
of the IOUSBFamily.kext, there might be a mismatch in
what was installed.
Regardless, the problem is most likely with your USB
files, and my advice is to check with Apple by sending
them your kernel panic logs. Otherwise, you can
experiment by removing your USB hubs or other USB devices,
to see if there is any difference. Finally, you can
check these discussions to see if a solution is there:

(Do a search under the Macintouch Reports
for "IOUSBFamily.kext" or kernel panics)

Please let me know if you find a solution to your
problem.

If you're not using EyeTV 10.2.5, then USB
problems with the OS are less probable, but
by no means impossible. I have seen reports
that the file I told you about may be involved
in problems no matter what version of 10.2.x.
I advise that you check with Apple - they are
the first people that should be told of kernel
panics.
EyeTV doesn't mess with the kernel directly,
so it's very unlikely that it's causing the
panics. That said, the only way to tell for
certain is to have Apple check it out.
You can also downgrade to EyeTV 1.1.2 and
see if it makes any difference.
10.2.5 is working fine on our systems - it
might make things better for you.
