I bought my mac (not the first) 2 years
ago for uni work. I am glad to say that
it has been able to do everything I have
needed and more. But when I try to play
games it has left me wanting. I am planing
to buy a new computer when I graduate and
I am wondering whether I should stick to
the mac or move to PC since I will only
be using it for games.

I really don't want to abandon macs but I
cant see what I will get out of a mac if
all I do is play games?

If all you want to use a computer for is playing games, a Mac is not the computer for you.

I say get a PC, if you are going to be gaming a lot on it. Get a PC now, and wait for the new processors to come to the Mac (and maybe even wait for the 2nd revision). Meanwhile, use your current Mac along side your gaming PC. Hopefully the 970's will give the Mac the gaming boost it needs.

If your focus will be gaming, Wintel is decidedly the best platform -- simply gets, by far, the best support.

Buy a new Mac when you can afford it, though .
Be happy.

Absolutely. I keep my PC here for it's wonderful gaming capibilities...Wintel machines are far ahead of Macs in terms of gaming hardware and most importantly, software. If gaming if your cup of tea, get a Windows-based PC.

I disagree. I would go with a concole. Loads cheaper and better performance, generally speaking.

Yeah, If I want to play a game, a console would be the way for me to go.

I hafta disagree; consoles provide lackluster resolutions compared to the intense graphical pleasure a PC graphics card can provide, and playing with a keyboard/mouse allows for so much more flexibility than dealing with a controller. Plus, Xbox LIVE and such is nice, but it just can't compare w/ 32-person deathmatches online w/ a PC.

Actually a console sounds good. That way
for surfing, mp3's etc I can use a mac
and for games I could get a console.

But the problem with consoles is that
not all the good games come out for console.

But I guess that will change

If you're going to have a computer anyway, and you know how to upgrade parts, it's barely more expensive than a console. I figured it up once and upgrading the PC every year ~$80 worth and buying 6 games/year over 5 years(life of a console), worked out to like $1600 for the console vs $1800 for the PC.

For myself, I gladly pay the cost to not be required to game on a TV and gamepad.

Exactly, and factor in that each console game costs at least $50, while PC games only cost $30+ for their first bit of release usually, and then the price promptly drops. And plus, there's so much more you can do with a PC (listen to your own music in the background), etc.

i agree, consoles are the way forward. Especially since xbox live has come into the picture. Or you can always get some addictive MMORPG (I think that is it) like Everquest or World of Warcraft and you will not ever touch another game in your life!

I am kind of not sure what I want any
more. I think I will just wait until I
finish uni then see if apple finnaly
releases macs at reasonable prices that
can play games as well as PC's do.

it is important what games one wnats to play. some games are console only while others are PC/Mac only. For instance games like Gran Turismo and Zelda are console only while games like Neverwinter Nights are PC/Mac only. Well PC only for now.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Actually, they do some small form-factor ones now.

But they're all overpriced!
A good source for rightly-priced PC's (fully customizable down to the minutest details, as well) is www.ibuypower.com .
Be happy.
