So after the M$ aqusition of Bungie, there was that press that said that they where still developing a Mac OS (and PC) version of the game.
Well now here we are in 2003 (4! years after the Macworld Mac Halo demo, run on a G3 no less) and now Bungie (M$) is hyping Halo 2(X Box). And there has been NO word about Mac Halo, at this rate there will be no point in releseing it, as it would just be embaresement to the Mac platform to relese a 3+ year old game.
Anbody got any idea on whats going on (it's taking longer than an OSX version of Quark)

Don't know what you mean by there hasn't been any word on HALO, just yesterday IMG published news on HALO. The Mac and PC (yes, even the PC version isn't out yet) are coming. Westlake is currently porting the Mac version. If you're that interested in the game, you should keep an eye on IMG for HALO.

Click the link and you'll see it posted on Amazon's website. As for no news (from the original post) - sheesh, its been talked about quite abit in the past month or two on the game sites.

Me thinks people need to actually do some reading instead of asking silly questions.

The most important line.

Retailers, by law, have to provide a release date for products they intend to sell (or something like that, don't know the exact wording).

At this point, who cares?

Halo was hot news 4 years ago. Had it been released 3 years ago it might have been news.

Now it's tired.

That said, if it gets released next month (ha!), my only hope is that people buy it - if only to sell more Mac/PC copies than they sold for the XBox

At this point... I don't care.

Four years ago I remember discussing the Halo trailers on GameRanger with all the other Mac gaming rats on GameRanger. We would speculate the requirements for the game and I remember wondering if it would run on my 450 mhz G3 with stock ATI 16 mb Rage128.

Boy were was I wrong. Microsoft butted in and took that away... I was looking forward to that game for so long. I honestly think Halo was one of the most anticiapted games ever for PC or Mac.

Damn Microsoft and their silly Xbox.

I would consider buying Halo if it would run on my Pismo 900, I only fear that the 8 meg graphics aren't enough. Bah.

It doesn't really matter when it ships anymore. Does it? The game will still be old whether it's shipped tomorrow or in 5 years.

I doubt we'll see it on the mac before year's end. I did download the PC demo in the meantime, and I must say I don't understand all the fuss. It's just not that great.

Actually, the PC version is heavily shader-based and is probably the most graphically intensive game ever to hit the Mac platform.

I have only viewed it a few times in person and touched an xbox a for no more than 5 minutes total (R zone work) so Halo on the mac will be my first experience of it and I don't care what it was or is as long as it is fun.

I know I shouldn't but I am holding it to marathon, I still play the games regularly and networked with friends and it is always fun and infinity was out in 1996.

I played Sin Gold recently and while using the now very dated QII engine it is a fun game and it does not look to bad. Sure graphical candy is nice but if it brings a dual G5 with a ATI 9800 card to stutter, then what is the point?

Halo might be a bit dated but it is hardly fossils like Wolfenstein 3D and Marathon. What will make or break Halo on the mac is not the graphical engine but how well the single player games is made and how well the network stuff is worked out. Story line and good ideas go a long way.

So while Halo is not the latest in pixelpushers it need not to be stale

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already used my coupon for iLife to replace a "borrowed" copy I was using.

That's a price drop for the PC version, not a price hike for the Mac version. $50 is pretty much standard price for new top tier games, for PC and Mac both. If you don't want to pay, just wait a bit. UT2k3 is down to $20 most places. If you want to be first in, well you pay for it.

Actually just saw a video clip from UT2K4 (don't have the URL handy, but check insidemacgames.com), and I must say this game looks way cool as well. I suspect it'll compete very well with Halo.
