I recently found a good deal on the 1Ghz TiBook (w/ the 64Mb Radeon) but I was curious about its gaming performance.

So, is it a reasonable gaming machine (War3, UT2k3, etc)? Thanks!

Yeah of course it is! It's the best Apple laptop for gaming (if your not desperate for a 17" screen!) The GPU will last much longer with future games because of the programmable shaders, games such as Halo, Doom 3 and UT2K3 will benefit from the Radeon 9000.
But, the processor is still only limited to 1Ghz so it'll be the limiting factor.
Plus you can boot into OS9 for a 30% speed increase!

Looking at the UT2k3 thread below, it seems that a lot of TiBook users average around 20 fps for the bot benchmarks. If you want better framerates, play online. Ryan Gordon said that each bot costs you about 2 fps. The TiBook should be fine playing wc3. As for Doom3, I doubt that any current mac can play doom3 decently. If you look at some of the pc benchmarks, doom3 require a lot of juice.

Apparatly the recomended specs on the PC will be a 1.4Ghz PC, compare that to 1Ghz for UT2K3 and you can see the difference!
BTW The minimum spec for Halo will be 1Ghz and a GeForce 2 according to the guys porting the PC version! Ouch!

1 ghz for HALO? Man I would hope my 867 Quicksilver with a Radeon 9000 would be able to handle HALO. I mean, come on, how lame would THAT be? (1 ghz and a GeForce2? You'd think they'd require a bit better card)

I confess that I'm not a gamer per se. I have MOH and RTCW and run them without complaint on a Ti 667 DVI with 1 gig of ram. The specs on the computer you're considering are far better.

Quake 3 engine games and WCIII all run well. I'm hoping that Halo will be at least playable with stuff turned off. I'll count myself lucky if I can get 10fps out of Doom 3

I have a Dual 867 with a 9000, and im fairly unhappy with game performance. Warcraft 3 runs fine, UT2K3 is a joke. and aside from Quake 3, any other Quake 3 based game will get half the framerate of a much less powerful PC.

so, it all depends on what you consider good gaming...

I agree. I just got MOH Spearhead yesterday for my Powerbook DVI 667. 1 gig of ram, 32 mb video card (natch), 5400 rpm HD. With the settings all the way down it was just barely OK. And two of the levels were just plain bad.
